Significantly, during the Russian civil war, the Merkaz or Central Committee of the Zionist Organization in Russia regularly reported on many armed groups committing pogroms against Jews in Russia, including the Whites, the Russian Ukrainian ' Green ' nationalist Nikifor Grigoriev ( later shot by Black Army troops on Makhno's orders ) as well as Red Army forces, but did not accuse Makhno or the anarchist Black Army of directing pogroms or other attacks against Russian Jews.

While the bulk of Makhno's forces consisted of ethnic Ukrainian peasants, he did not consider himself to be a Ukrainian nationalist, but rather an anarchist.

His movement did put out a Ukrainian-language version of their newspaper and his wife Halyna Kuzmenko was a nationally-conscious Ukrainian.

In time it was noticed that this music only catered for the working classes in the cities and did not take into account the large percentage of Ukrainian peasants living in village setting.

The alliance with Petlura did result in 15, 000 pro-Polish allied Ukrainian troops at the beginning of the campaign, increasing to 35, 000 through recruitment and desertion from the Soviet side during the war.

The National Democrats in charge of the state also had few concerns about the fate of their Ukrainian ally, Petliura, and cared little that their political opponent, Piłsudski, felt honor-bound by his treaty obligations ; his opponents did not hesitate to scrap the treaty.

This proved to be a turning point in Ukrainian society, for the first time in Ukraine's history, the majority of ethnic Ukrainians lived in urban areas ; 53 percent of the ethnic Ukrainian population did so in 1979.

In contrast to what many believed, the number of those claiming the Ukrainian language as their mother tongue did not sharply decrease with the urbanisation campaign.

In fact, Piłsudski did apologize the Ukrainian officers on a completely different occasion.

While the Romanian, German, and Polish deputies unanimously voted for union, the Ukrainian deputies ( representing 38 % of the population according to the 1910 Austrian census ) and Jewish deputies did not attend.

He never mastered a foreign language and did not do well even with his native Ukrainian language.

One of Ukrainian-Jewish leaders in independent Ukraine wrote that " Petliura did not want or was not able to defend Ukrainian Jews from his own army ".

After the 2007 parliamentary election the parties associated with the Our Ukraine Bloc ( named Our Ukraine – People's Self-Defense Bloc in 2007 ) lost popular support greatly while Front of Changes ( the party of former Our Ukraine politician Arseniy Yatsenyuk ) and Strong Ukraine achieved good results in polls for the next Ukrainian parliamentary election and in the 2010 local elections ; so did All-Ukrainian Union " Svoboda ", a party who can not be placed in the above mentioned two major movements.

This list of other alliances ( on November 17, 2011 the Ukrainian Parliament approved an election law that banned the participation of blocs of political parties in parliamentary elections ) and defunct parties is based on the parties and alliance that did take part in parliamentary elections before the last Ukrainian national election but have not taken part in any national election since then, some party's did change to different political alliances since then.
