While the bodies that proposed, argued, agreed upon and ultimately adopted existing international agreements vary according to each agreement, certain conferences, including 1972's United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, 1983's World Commission on Environment and Development, 1992's United Nations Conference on Environment and Development and 2002's World Summit on Sustainable Development have been particularly important.

Following the World Food Summit, the Alliance was initially created in 2002 as the ‘ International Alliance Against Hunger ( IAAH )’ to strengthen and coordinate national efforts in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

This statement was again endorsed at the 2005 World Summit in New York ( paragraph 121 ).

India has also played an important and influential role in other international organizations like East Asia Summit, World Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund ( IMF ), G8 + 5 and IBSA Dialogue Forum.

* World Summit on the Information Society

In the early 2000s, there had been speculation that the United Nations might signal a takeover of ICANN, followed by a negative reaction from the US government and worries about a division of the Internet the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunisia in November 2005 agreed not to get involved in the day-to-day and technical operations of ICANN.

The United Nations 2005 World Summit Outcome Document refers to the " interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars " of sustainable development as economic development, social development, and environmental protection.

In this context, the Agenda 21 for culture and the United Cities and Local Governments ( UCLG ) Executive Bureau lead the preparation of the policy statement “ Culture: Fourth Pillar of Sustainable Development ”, passed on 17 November 2010, in the framework of the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders – 3rd World Congress of UCLG, held in Mexico City.

At the 2005 World Summit, the world's nations agreed on a " Responsibility to Protect " giving a right of humanitarian intervention.

The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1674, adopted by the United Nations Security Council on April 28, 2006, " Reaffirm the provisions of paragraphs 138 and 139 of the 2005 World Summit Outcome Document regarding the responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity ".

The date of the World Summit on Sustainable Development ( August – September 2002 ) was put forward as a target to bring the Kyoto Protocol into force.

The World Summit on Sustainable Development ( WSSD ) was to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A further special session ( 2005 World Summit ) was held in September 2005 to commemorate the UN's 60th anniversary ; it assessed progress on the Millennium Development Goals, and discussed Kofi Annan's In Larger Freedom proposals.

* September 29 – 30 – The United Nations World Summit for Children draws more than 70 world leaders to United Nations Headquarters.

Having been bypassed with the completion of the Lucin Cutoff in 1904, the Promontory Summit rails were pulled up in 1942 to be recycled for the World War II effort.

Childhood's End -- apparently indebted to Kurd Lasswitz's Utopian romance, Auf Zwei Planeten ( 1897 ), and also to Wells's Histories Of The Future, especially, The World Set Free ( 1914 ) and The Shape Of Things To Come ( 1933 ) -- describes the bloodless conquest of earth by the Overlords, vastly superior creatures who come to our world in order to prepare the human race for its next stage of development, an eventual merging with the composite mind of the universe.

There is, of course, nothing new about dystopias, for they belong to a literary tradition which, including also the closely related satiric utopias, stretches from at least as far back as the eighteenth century and Swift's Gulliver's Travels to the twentieth century and Zamiatin's We, Capek's War With The Newts, Huxley's Brave New World, E. M. Forster's `` The Machine Stops '', C. S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength, and Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, and which in science fiction is represented before the present deluge as early as Wells's trilogy, The Time Machine, `` A Story Of The Days To Come '', and When The Sleeper Wakes, and as recently as Jack Williamson's `` With Folded Hands '' ( 1947 ), the classic story of men replaced by their own robots.

And if the foreigners fighting in the Katanga Army are mercenaries then Lafayette and Von Steuben were mercenaries too, as were also the members of the Lafayette Escadrille in the early part of World War 1, and of Chennault's Flying Tigers in the early days of World War 2.

There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Algeria including Al Qal ' a of Beni Hammad, the first capital of the Hammadid empire ; Tipasa, a Phoenician and later Roman town ; and Djémila and Timgad, both Roman ruins ; M ' Zab Valley, a limestone valley containing a large urbanized oasis ; also the Casbah of Algiers is an important citadel.

Best known for his novels including Brave New World and a wide-ranging output of essays, Huxley also edited the magazine Oxford Poetry, and published short stories, poetry, travel writing, film stories and scripts.

Van Vogt was also profoundly affected by revelations of totalitarian police states that emerged after World War II.

This is also the oldest surviving non-Roman Catholic church in the New World.

In 1949, Camus founded the Group for International Liaisons within the Revolutionary Union Movement after his split with Garry Davis ' movement Citizens of the World, which the surrealist André Breton was also a member.

It was also naval engineers that constructed the first tanks during World War I, giving rise to armoured fighting vehicles.

Tank armour has progressed from the Second World War armour forms, now incorporating not only harder composites, but also reactive armour designed to defeat shaped charges.

An arcology is also depicted in the 1968 futuristic novel " The World Inside ", by Robert Silverberg, where in the year 2381 the human race lives in 1000-storey-high towers, providing everything necessary to the society ( nutrition, energy, entertainment, jobs, etc .).

Independent battalions were also deployed as ' stiffeners ' for infantry divisions, and the StuG III's anti-tank capabilities contributed greatly to the German's ability to draw out World War II after they had lost the strategic initiative.
