Between 1673 and 1681, the Emperor Kangxi suppressed an uprising of three generals in Southern China who had been denied hereditary rule to large fiefdoms granted by the previous emperor ; he also put down a Ming restorationist invasion from Taiwan, called the Revolt of the Three Feudatories.

The Chinese emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty oversaw the compilation of the Yongle Encyclopedia, one of the largest encyclopedias in history, which was completed in 1408 and comprised over 370 million Chinese characters in 11, 000 handwritten volumes, of which only about 400 remain today.

Smoking of opium came on the heels of tobacco smoking and may have been encouraged by a brief ban on the smoking of tobacco by the Ming emperor, ending in 1644 with the Qing dynasty, which had encouraged smokers to mix in increasing amounts of opium.

* April 25 – A popular Chinese rebellion led by Li Zicheng sacks Beijing, prompting Chongzhen, the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty, to commit suicide.

Ming Cheng Zu, Zhu Di, the third emperor of Ming Dynasty shifted the Ming capital from Nanjing to Beijing.

* After years of begging and being a Buddhist monk, the penniless Chinese peasant Zhu Yuanzhang joins the Red Turban Rebellion against the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty of China ; he will later become the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty.

* The Chinese emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the Hongwu Emperor, suspends the traditional civil service examination system after complaining that the 120 new jinshi degree-holders are too incompetent to hold office ; he instead relies solely upon a system of recommendations until the civil service exams are reinstated in 1384.

xuande Emperor | Xuande is described as the only Ming emperor " who displayed genuine artistic talent ".

The last Yuan emperor fled north to Shangdu and Zhu declared the founding of the Ming Dynasty after razing the Yuan palaces in Dadu to the ground ; the city was renamed Beiping in the same year.

In 1380 Hongwu had the Chancellor Hu Weiyong ( 胡惟庸 ) executed upon suspicion of a conspiracy plot to overthrow him ; after that Hongwu abolished the Chancellery and assumed this role as chief executive and emperor, a precedent mostly followed throughout the Ming period.

The man who assassinated Qianfei quickly became emperor himself and decleared himself emperor Ming.

The successor to the emperor Ming, emperor Houfei, was resentful of the control Xiao Daocheng had over him and announced openly several times he would kill him.

* 1930 – After the mysterious death of Empress Zewditu, Haile Selassie is proclaimed emperor of Ethiopia.
