* The Pan-Arab colors, green, white, red and black, are derived from the flag of the Great Arab Revolt as seen on the flags of Jordan, Libya, Kuwait, Sudan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen and Palestine.

For example, the flags of Venezuela, of Colombia, and of Ecuador all use variants of the flag of Great Colombia, the country they composed upon their independence from Spain, created by the Venezuelan independence hero Francisco de Miranda ; and the flags of Egypt, of Iraq, of Syria, and of Yemen are all highly similar variants of the flag of the Arab revolt of 1916 – 1918.

The flag of Yemen () was adopted on May 22, 1990, the day that North Yemen and South Yemen were unified.

The North used the flag on the right ( the flag of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen ), from 1927 to 1962, when it became the Yemen Arab Republic.

The flag of the Yemen Arab Republic was the Arab Liberation Flag with a green star in the center of the white band.
