As early as 1749, Benning Wentworth, New Hampshire's governor, was selling land grants in the area west of the Connecticut River, to which New Hampshire had always laid somewhat dubious claim.

The area was divided into several provinces called satrapies, which were each ruled by a governor, or satrap.

The Province of Lebanon that would be controlled by the Maronites, but the entire area was placed under direct rule of the governor of Damascus, and carefully watched by the Ottoman Empire.

Later, in the Persian Empire, a regulated and sustainable tax system was introduced by Darius I the Great in 500 BC ; the Persian system of taxation was tailored to each Satrapy ( the area ruled by a Satrap or provincial governor ).

Don Juan de Oñate y Salazar ( 1550 – 1626 ) was a Mexican explorer, colonial governor of the New Spain province of New Mexico, and founder of various settlements in the present day American Southwest.

On 31 January 1767 at Río de la Plata, Bougainville met Don Felipe Ruiz Puente, commanding the frigate La Esmeralda and La Liebre (" the Hare ") and future governor of the Falkland Islands ( Malvinas ), to take possession of the islands, and to evacuate the French population.
