* 1970 – Newhall Incident: Four California Highway Patrol officers are killed in a shootout.

* 1992 – Los Angeles riots: Riots in Los Angeles, California, following the acquittal of police officers charged with excessive force in the beating of Rodney King.

An infamous case was the 1992 trial in the Rodney King case in California, in which white police officers were acquitted of excessive force in the violent beating of a black man by a jury consisting mostly of whites without any black jurors, with a video tape showing King continuing to try to get up despite the beating.

The radio series Nightwatch ( 1951 – 1955 ), which tape-recorded the daily activities of Culver City, California police officers, also helped pave the way for reality television.

Selkirk persuaded eighty men and four officers to go to Red River where they were to serve as a military force to protect his settlers from the hostile Northwest Company which resented the intrusion of farmers into the fur traders' empire.

Often Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company ( ANGLICO ) officers are assigned to the battalion, to coordinate naval gunfire support.

During the period in which Kenya's interior was being forcibly opened up for British settlement, an officer in the Imperial British East Africa Company asserted, " There is only one way to improve the Wakikuyu that is wipe them out ; I should be only too delighted to do so, but we have to depend on them for food supplies ", and colonial officers such as Richard Meinertzhagen wrote of how, on occasion, they massacred Kikuyu by the hundred.

Provisions of the 1933 Banking Act that were later repealed or replaced include ( 1 ) Sections 5 ( c ) and 19, which required an owner of more than 50 % of a Federal Reserve System member bank ’ s stock to receive a permit from ( and submit to inspection by ) the Federal Reserve Board to vote that stock ( replaced by the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 ); ( 2 ) Section 8, which established the Federal Open Market Committee ( FOMC ) made up of representatives from each of the 12 Federal Reserve Banks ( replaced by the Federal Reserve Board-dominated FOMC established by the Banking Act of 1935 ); ( 3 ) Section 11 ( b ), which prohibited interest payments on demand deposits ( repealed by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 ) and authorized the Federal Reserve Board to limit interest rates on time deposits ( phased out by the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980 ), both of which interest limitations were incorporated into Regulation Q, and ( 4 ) Section 12, which prohibited Federal Reserve System member bank loans to their executive officers and required the repayment of outstanding loans ( replaced by the 1935 Banking Act ’ s regulation of such loans and modified by later legislation ).

Although his reforms were relatively moderate, he was widely disliked by the United States government, the Catholic Church, large landowners, employers such as the United Fruit Company, and Guatemalan military officers, who viewed his government as inefficient, corrupt, and heavily influenced by Communists.
