In the summer of 1878 Doubleday lived in Mendham, New Jersey, and became a prominent member of the Theosophical Society.

His work began to interest others interested in spiritual ideas ; among these was the Theosophical Society.

From 1900 on, thanks to the positive reception given to his ideas, Steiner focused increasingly on his work with the Theosophical Society becoming the secretary of its section in Germany in 1902.

By 1907, a split between Steiner and the mainstream Theosophical Society had begun to become apparent.

The split became irrevocable when Annie Besant, then president of the Theosophical Society, began to present the child Jiddu Krishnamurti as the reincarnated Christ.

Steiner's continuing differences with Besant led him to separate from the Theosophical Society Adyar ; he was followed by the great majority of the membership of the Theosophical Society's German Section, as well as members of other national sections.

Some of Whorf's unpublished manuscripts on spirituality also suggest that he was influenced by the ideas of Helena Blavatsky the founder of the Theosophical Society who wrote about cosmic evolution, a belief that regards reincarnation to be the source of evolution of human races towards continuously higher forms.

The photographs became public in mid-1919, after Elsie's mother attended a meeting of the Theosophical Society in Bradford.

Nehru was subsequently initiated into the Theosophical Society at age thirteen by family friend Annie Beasant.

After the death of William Quan Judge in 1896, organized the Theosophical Society Independent and then wrote Thinking and Destiny which covers in plan terms the purpose of the universe and occult meanings.

Steiner continued speaking regularly to the members of the Theosophical Society, becoming the head of its newly constituted German section in 1902 without ever formally joining the society.

By 1904, Steiner was appointed by Annie Besant to be leader of the Theosophical Esoteric Society for Germany and Austria.

The German Section of the Theosophical Society grew rapidly under Steiner's leadership as he lectured throughout much of Europe on his spiritual science.

This and other differences, in particular Steiner's vocal rejection of Leadbeater and Besant's claim that Jiddu Krishnamurti was the vehicle of a new Maitreya, or world teacher, led to a formal split in 1912 / 13, when Steiner and the majority of members of the German section of the Theosophical Society broke off to form a new group, the Anthroposophical Society.

His first public articulations referring to spiritual experiences or phenomena began in his lectures to the Theosophical Society of 1899.

This describes a number of divine and material worlds, and four or eight " states " ( equivalent to the Theosophical Planes ), each divided into degrees, each of which are in turn subdivided into sub-degrees.

Leadbeater ( from, the source states, their research into the " akashic records " at the Theosophical Society headquarters in Adyar ( Tamil Nadu ), India conducted in the summer of 1910 ) as having been the Emperor of Atlantis in 220, 000 BC, ruling from his palace in the capital city, the City of the Golden Gates.

The later Theosophical arrangement was taken up by Alice Bailey, and from there found its way ( with variations ) into the New Age worldview.

In 1915 Bailey discovered the Theosophical Society and the work of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky ( Bailey, pp 134 – 136 ).

Bailey claimed to recognize Koot Hoomi, the master who had visited her in her childhood, from a portrait she saw in the Shrine Room of the Theosophical Society.

Also in 1919, 32nd degree Freemason Foster Bailey ( 1888 – 1977 ), who was to be her second husband, became National Secretary of the Theosophical Society.

In 1923, with the help of Foster Bailey, Alice Bailey also founded the Arcane School ( also part of Lucis Trust ), which gave ( and still gives ) a series of correspondence courses based on her heterodox version of Theosophy, which accepted the basic Theosophical views on karma, reincarnation, masters, a divine plan, and humanity's achievement of their original divine status ( Bailey, pp. 192 – 193 ).

Originally presented by Helena P. Blavatsky in the 1870s, the idea of the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom or Mahatmas was adopted by people who at some point had had a connection with the Theosophical movement, such as Alice Bailey, Helena Roerich, and Manly P. Hall.

Other Theosophical writers such as Alice Bailey, a contemporary of Leadbeater, also gave continuousness to Theosophical concepts of ethereal beings and her works had a great impact over New Age movement.

Leadbeater and Besant ( Adyar School of Theosophy ), and later Alice Bailey, though, in formalising Theosophical cosmology around 1913, conceived that the etheric plane constituted four higher subplanes of the physical plane.

According to Theosophical writings, Djwal Khul is said to work on furthering the spiritual evolution of our planet through the teachings offered in the 24 books by Alice Bailey of Esoteric Teachings published by The Lucis Trust ; he is said to have telepathically transmitted the teachings to Bailey and is thus regarded by her followers as the communications director of the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom.

In 1919 Alice Bailey ( 1880 – 1949 ), severed her links with the Theosophical Society for various reasons and later began writing books she described as being telepathically dictated to her by Djwhal Khul whom she referred to as " The Tibetan " ( later associated with the initials D. K .).

In 1900 he moved to San Diego and became a prominent member and supporter of the Theosophical community Lomaland, which was being developed on Point Loma by Katherine Tingley.

Eventually the Theosophical Society became virtually synonymous with Theosophy in the vernacular sense.

He later became heavily involved with the Theosophical Society and with hermeticism, particularly with the eclectic Rosicrucianism of the Golden Dawn.

He became the General Secretary of the American Section of the Theosophical Society in 1884, with Abner Doubleday as President.

Originally a priest of the Church of England, his interest in spiritualism caused him to end his affiliation with Anglicanism in favour of the Theosophical Society, where he became an associate of Annie Besant.

He became one of the best known speakers of the Theosophical Society for a number of years and was also Secretary of the London Lodge.

He disassociated himself from the Theosophical Society and its doctrines and practices, and during the next six decades became known as an influential speaker on philosophical and religious subjects.

Public interest in Theosophy in Australia and New Zealand increased greatly as a result of Leadbeater's presence there, and Sydney became comparable to Adyar as a centre of Theosophical activity.

The Manor became one of three major Theosophical Society sites, the others being at Adyar and the Netherlands.

She joined the Theosophical Society and attended courses in psychology and psychoanalysis at the University of London, and became a lay psychotherapist at the Medico-Psychological Clinic in Brunswick Square.

Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society ( the occult gnostic group which became precursor of the New Age movement, popular in England during that time ), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks.

He then founded the Gnostic Theosophical Society of Washington, and in 1890 he became the president of the Esoteric Theosophical Society of America.

The Anthroposophical Society traces its history back to 1902, when Rudolf Steiner became General Secretary of the German branch of the Theosophical Society.

By 1907, Steiner's shift from the use of Blavatsky's Theosophical terminology to the teaching of the core of his own Anthroposophical revelation became increasingly apparent, including at the International Congress at Munich in May 1907.

Later, he became involved in Theosophy and joined the Toronto Lodge of the International Theosophical Society.

Leadbeater, he joined the Theosophical Society of Los Angeles, of which he became vice-president in 1904 and 1905.

Kingsford was interested in Buddhism and Gnosticism, and became active in the theosophical movement in England, becoming president of the London Lodge of the Theosophical Society in 1883.
