Thus the route in the final proposal deviates from the original plan ( in which the line terminated in the centre of Tin Shui Wai new town ), to terminate near Tuen Mun town centre.

The southern extension mainly consists of a route linking On Ting and Ferry Pier, on the newly reclaimed land near the river mouth of Tuen Mun River, known as " Mouse Island " by locals.

The station is elevated over the Tuen Mun River, near the Town Park in the centre of Tuen Mun New Town.
