When Cleuver and Dresden left Focus shortly after, Van Leer joined Akkerman, Van der Linden, and Havermans as the new lineup of Focus.

In 1985, Van Leer and Akkerman reunited for a joint project ( because of contractual obligation ) which resulted in the commercially unsuccessful album Focus.

In 1990, the " classic " lineup of Akkerman, Van Leer, Ruiter, and Van der Linden performed old and new compositions on the Dutch TV shows Veronika and Goud van Oud.

Van Leer and Akkerman shared the stage and performed Focus compositions at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1993.

Six years later, Van Leer attempted to reform Focus with original drummer Hans Cleuver, bassist Bert Ruiter, and new guitarist Menno Gootjes.

The town is named for Anthony Van Leer, onetime operator of the iron works in nearby Cumberland Furnace.

In response to the growing demand, the president of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Colonel Blake R. Van Leer, sought to establish a technical institute program within Georgia.

In 1945 he was approached by the Associated Industries of Georgia ( AIG ) who shared their common desire to have such a program established and offered Van Leer their support.

It took years for Van Leer to convince the Board of Regents to give Georgia Tech authorization to establish a technical institute, but finally on October 8, 1947 the authorization was granted.

Thijs Van Leer ( pronounced: ; born 31 March 1948 ) is a Dutch musician, singer and composer, best known for heading the Dutch progressive rock band, Focus, as primary vocalist, Hammond organ player, and flautist.

In his later years, Van Leer went on to release many solo albums which were also classical music and jazz-based.

Van Leer was born in Amsterdam, and received his first flute at the age of eleven from his father, a classical flautist.

Van Leer headed Focus through several line-up changes, and by early 1976 he was the only remaining original member ; the group disbanded in 1978.

Van Leer has also experimented with sacred vocal music.
