Comedy track writer A. Veerappan used to write comedy tracks for Goundamani and they both became fantastic duo.

More recently, dacoit Veerappan of Tamil Nadu state evaded authorities for decades until he was shot dead in 2004.

Since much of the southern area of the district is dense forest, it provided good refuge to the notorious bandit Veerappan, responsible for the death of over a hundred policemen.

She sent a special task force to the Satyamangalam forests in October 2004 to hunt down notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan.

The operation was successful as Veerappan was finally killed by the task force on 18 October 2004.

Veerappan issues a taped statement saying that Nagappa has been accidentally killed in a shootout with the police.

Later robber heroes included the Cavalier highwayman James Hind, the French-born gentleman highwayman Claude Du Vall, John Nevison, Dick Turpin, Sixteen String Jack, the Slovak Juraj Jánošík, and quite a few Indians including Kayamkulam Kochunni, Veerappan and Phoolan Devi.

At the age of 71, he was kidnapped in Gajanur ( the place where he brought up ) by forest brigand Veerappan until a 108-day ordeal when he was released.

On July 30, 2000, at the age of 72, Rajkumar, his son-in-law Govindaraju, and two others were abducted from the actor's palatial house at Gajanur ( prior to 1947, it was in Princely State of Mysore now in Erode district of Tamil Nadu ) by Veerappan.

Veerappan was demanding the release of his gang members who were being held in jail under a defunct anti-terrorism law.

The Supreme Court of India opined that it was " unpardonable " on the part of the Government of Tamil Nadu for not providing security to Rajkumar despite having information a year ago that he faced threat of being kidnapped by Veerappan.

Koose Muniswamy Veerappan ( January 18, 1952 – October 18, 2004 ), commonly known as Sandalwood Veerappan, was an Indian dacoit active for years in a broad swath of scrub and forest land covering 6, 000 km² in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Veerappan had a price of on his head but evaded arrest for 20 years until he was killed by police in 2004.

Koose Muniswamy Veerappan, a. k. a. Veerappan, was born on January 18, 1952 in Gopinatham village located in border areas of Karnataka state to a family of cattle grazers.

Veerappan started as an assistant to Xavier Gounder, who was a notorious poacher and sandalwood smuggler.

Indian actor Dr. Rajkumar was kidnapped by Veerappan in 2000.

On July 30, 2000, Veerappan kidnapped the famed Kannada film star Dr. Rajkumar, a Dada Saheb Phalke award winner, from Gajanur, a border village of Karnataka, when the film star was attending a housewarming ceremony.

Negotiations were conducted and R. Gopal, also known as " nakkeran gopalan ", an editor of a Tamil magazine called " Nakkeeran " was involved in several rounds of talks with Veerappan.

There were allegations by several people that about large amount was paid to Veerappan for the safe release.

Veerappan and his associates were travelling in an ambulance, heading for treatment for Veerappan's eyes, but the Tamilnadu Special Task Force, which was observing his movement for seveal months surrounded the three men.

Veerappan was buried in the village of Moolakadu, Tamil Nadu.
