Free programming from the ITV network, plus other support from its neighbours ABC, ATV and TWW just about kept the ship afloat, but Granada decided to dispense with its productions in the Welsh language, and the loss of this valuable programming stream proved fatal to WWN.

In January 1964, TWW was required to take over the franchise of its neighbour, Teledu Cymru — Wales ( West and North ) ( WWN ) when that company became the only ITV company to ever fail financially.

When the company acquired WWN, they ran the station under its old name, essentially adding another sub region to their ownership, as in addition to operating these two, they also operated a region serving North and West Wales under the Teledu Cymru name.

While the tabloid's main rival, Sun, carried a fine print disclaimer, the WWN never publicly questioned the accuracy of its own stories until 2004, when the paper began stating that " the reader should suspend disbelief for the sake of enjoyment ".

When WWN went on the air on 14 September 1962, the ITV Network was completed.

These punitive regulations were accepted, and the contract was awarded in 1961 to Wales Television Limited, which was later changed to Wales ( West and North ) Television Limited, following objections from TWW who felt that the original name was intruding on their area, though WWN dropped the parenthesis at every possible opportunity.

WWN was to use three VHF transmitters, at Preseli ( covering the south west ), Arfon ( north west ) and Moel-y-Parc in the north east.

When the Preseli transmitter came online on 14 September 1962, so did WWN.

However, the delay in introducing the transmitters at Arfon and Moel-y-Parc, until later in 1963, destroyed the morale and the finances of WWN.

WWN's studio complex was located in Western Avenue, Cardiff, despite the fact that this area was not served by WWN but by their rivals TWW.

Following the acquisition of WWN by TWW, the Western Avenue base was closed, with all operations moved to TWW's Pontcanna base, also in Cardiff.

The former WWN area was still run as a separate area under the banner TWW-Teledu Cymru.

Following the acquisition of WWN, their Teledu Cymru branding was utilised by TWW for the North and West Wales service.

This problem was eventually overcome, and Channel Television went on the air on September 1, 1962-the penultimate ITV franchise to begin broadcasting ( followed by WWN ), and serving the smallest population: only about 150, 000 people in 54, 000 households.

In the 1980s, the circulation of WWN peaked at 1. 2 million per issue.

In October 2008, Bat Boy L. L. C., a company started by Neil McGinness, bought WWN.
