The first four films are historical dramas set, respectively, in the time of Christ, the U. S. Civil War, 16th-century Spain, and the late 19th-century South — the latter a fictionalized treatment of the life of Methodist evangelist, Robert Sayers Sheffey.

The company produced gritty dramas such as A Family at War ( 1970 – 72 ).

In 1869 his first play, Le Passant, was received with approval at the Odéon theatre, and later Fais ce que dois ( 1871 ) and Les Bijoux de la délivrance ( 1872 ), short poetic dramas inspired by the Franco-Prussian War, were applauded.

Subplots and tangents wander into view and then fade away, and in the end it all comes together and makes sense, more or less … Period dramas set on the eve of World War II are a dime — or maybe a shilling — a dozen, but what distinguishes this one is its dash and vigor.
