Founded by Greg Stafford, its first game was actually a wargame, White Bear and Red Moon, which later mutated into Dragon Pass and its sequel, Nomad Gods.

White Bear and Red Moon is notable for containing the first published material about Glorantha, later used as the primary setting for the role-playing games RuneQuest, Hero Wars and HeroQuest.

Initially it was a supporting material publication for White Bear and Red Moon but for its 11th issue, in 1981, it had become the official RuneQuest magazine.

The Nordisk company was set up there in 1906 by Ole Olsen, a fairground showman, and after a brief period imitating the successes of French and British film-makers, in 1907 he produced 67 films, most directed by Viggo Larsen, with sensational subjects like Den hvide Slavinde ( The White Slave ), Isbjørnenjagt ( Polar Bear Hunt ) and Løvejagten ( The Lion Hunt ).

He founded the company Chaosium to publish the board wargame White Bear and Red Moon in 1974 ( other sources say 1975 ), which was set in Glorantha.

Glorantha has been, so far, the background for 2 board-games ( White Bear and Red Moon / Dragon Pass and Nomad Gods ), two role-playing games ( RuneQuest and HeroQuest ), one video game ( King of Dragon Pass ), one comic book series ( Path of the Damned ), five novels or collections of fiction ( King of Sartar by Greg Stafford, The Collected / Complete Griselda by Oliver Dickinson, Gloranthan Visions by various authors, The Widow's Tale and Eurhol's Vale & Other Tales by Penelope Love, and numerous pieces of myth and fiction created by the Glorantha community, featuring in magazines such as Tales of the Reaching Moon.

The first game system set in Glorantha was the board game White Bear and Red Moon.

In May 1871, Kiowa medicine man Satank ( Sitting Bear ), and Kiowa chiefs Satanta ( White Bear ), Addo-etta ( Big Tree ) and Maman-ti ( Skywalker ) led a force of over 100 Kiowa, Comanche, Kiowa-Apaches, Arapaho, and Cheyenne warriors from the Oklahoma Fort Sill Reservation into Texas.

This inspired him to create the world's second bus line from San Bernardino to Big Bear Valley using White trucks with several rows of seats.
