Claude King ( born February 5, 1923 ) is an American country music singer and songwriter, best known for his million selling 1962 hit, " Wolverton Mountain ".

In 1981, Arkansas governor Frank D. White paid tribute to King and his big 1962 hit by declaring August 7 " Wolverton Mountain Day.

His love of writing blossomed into scriptwriting under the tutorage of Carroll O ’ Connor during his time on “ In the Heat of the Night ,” which yielded him the unique opportunity to co-write the screenplay for the # 1 Country song “ Wolverton Mountain ” with Merle Kilgore.

The original concept name and design of Human Potential began in the aftermath of the failed prophecies of Armstrong as outlined in 1975 in Prophecy !, written by Armstrong and illustrated by Basil Wolverton.

It was written by Herbert W. Armstrong and illustrated by Basil Wolverton of Mad magazine fame, published in 1956 by the Worldwide Church of God ( WCG ).
