The proposed instrument package for the series initially included: the Advanced Baseline Imager ( ABI ); the Hyperspectral Environmental Suite ( HES ); the Space Environment In-Situ Suite ( SEISS ), which includes two Magnetospheric Particle Sensors ( MPS-HI and MPS-LO ), an Energetic Heavy Ion Sensor ( EHIS ), and a Solar and Galactic Proton Sensor ( SGPS ); the Solar Imaging Suite ( SIS ), which includes the Solar Ultraviolet Imager ( SUVI ), the Solar X-Ray Sensor ( XRS ), and the Extreme Ultraviolet Sensor ( EUVS ); the Geostationary Lightning Mapper ( GLM ); and the Magnetometer.

In late 2006, Toyota discontinued use of the 2ZZ-GE engine and dropped the XRS from the Matrix lineup to be temporarily replaced by the M-Theory edition.

The two other instruments, XIS and HXD, were unaffected by the malfunction, and there are plans to integrate another XRS into the proposed NeXT X-ray observation satellite planned for launch in 2014.

The GOES spacecraft have carried a X-Ray Sensor ( XRS ) which measures the flux from the whole solar disk in two bands-0. 05 to 0. 4 nm and 0. 1 to 0. 8 nm since 1974, a X-ray imager ( SXI ) since 2004, a magnetometer which measures the distortions of the Earth ’ s magnetic field due to space weather, a whole disk EUV sensor since 2004, and particle sensors ( EPS / HEPAD ) which measure ions and electrons in the energy range of ( 50 keV to 500 MeV ).

* X-Ray fluorescence spectrometer ( XRS )

The US Lotus Elise and Exige models used the 1. 8L VVTL-i I4 from Toyota's late Celica GT-S and the Matrix XRS which is no longer available new.

Due to being front wheel drive, the XRS has a weight distribution of 59 / 41 ( front / rear ), which may result in understeer when driven hard.

The 2009 Toyota Corolla in the United States ( but not Canada ) has stability control as a $ 250 option on all trims below that of the XRS which has it as standard.

As a result, this engine has been discontinued on some Toyota models, including that of the Corolla T-Sport ( Europe ), Corolla Sportivo ( Australia ), Celica, Corolla XRS, Toyota Matrix XRS, and the Pontiac Vibe GT, all of which had the 2ZZ-GE engine fitted.

This effectively shut down the XRS which is the spacecraft's primary instrument.

Alloy wheels, a body kit, and rear window wiper were also stricken from the options list by Toyota, forcing buyers to go with an XR or XRS model if they wished to have these features, as well as six-way adjustable seats and variable intermittent windshield wipers.

In 2005, an XRS started out at $ 18, 850, and for its last year, it went for at least $ 19, 250.

With the exception of an available automatic in 2003, a six-speed manual transmission has been the only option for the XRS.

In the United States, three trim grades ( Standard, S, and XRS ) are offered, as well as two I4 engines: a 2ZR-FE for the base model ( chassis code ZRE142 ) and a 2AZ-FE for the S and XRS grades.

The XR trim and AWD option became exclusive for Canada, and the S model was released only in the U. S. * BL 6-2 With three upstream mirrors, two for focusing and a third for harmonic rejection, this beamline has become dedicated to soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy including Rapid-scanning xRF imaging, and advanced spectrscopy such as XES ( resonant and non-resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy ), XRS ( non-resonant x-ray Raman scattering and RIXS ( resonant inelastic X-ray scattering ).

Seventeen major flares erupted on the Sun between 19 October and 5 November 2003, including perhaps the most intense flare ever measured on the GOES XRS sensor – a huge X28 flare, resulting in an extreme radio blackout, on 4 November.

Like each year of the XRS model, the M-Theory was a limited production run of 2500 cars.

All wheel drive was also available from 2003 – 2006 when coupled to the 1ZZ engine and automatic transmission, but was dropped at the same time as the XRS.

The Matrix's mid-grade trim level, the XR was designed to combine the cheapness of the base model with the looks and features of the XRS.

A 2003 XR started at and, but when equipped with AWD cost at least $ 18, 445 ( only $ 305 less than an XRS ) and weighed in at.

Canadian buyers are offered four trim levels: a 1. 8 L-powered base model and the XR, AWD, and XRS models with a 2. 4 liter engine.
