Many opposed the new educational system that Yisrael Salanter set up, and others charged that deviations from traditional methods would lead to assimilation no less surely than the path of classic German Reform Judaism.

Mesillat Yesharim is probably Luzzato's most influential work, forming part of the curriculum of virtually every yeshiva since being introduced by the Mussar Movement of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter.

Manoel Dias Soeiro ( 1604 – November 20, 1657 ), better known by his Hebrew name Menasseh ben Israel ( מנשה בן ישראל ), also, Menasheh ben Yossef ben Yisrael, also known with the Hebrew acronym, MB " Y, was a Portuguese rabbi, kabbalist, scholar, writer, diplomat, printer and publisher, founder of the first Hebrew printing press ( named Emeth Meerets Titsma ` h ) in Amsterdam in 1626.

Dovid Leibowitz ( 1889-1941 ) was a leading rabbi and disciple of prewar Europe's Slabodka Yeshiva in Lithuania who went on to found the Rabbinical Seminary of America ( which is also known as " Yeshiva Rabeinu Yisroel Meir Hakohen " or Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen ) as its first Rosh yeshiva ( dean ) in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, New York.

The Rabbinical Seminary of America was named after his great-uncle rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan who was also well known as the " Chofetz Chaim ".

Alter Chanoch Henoch Leibowitz ( c. 1918 – April 15, 2008 ) was an Orthodox rabbi who was rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen, which was founded by his father Rabbi Dovid Leibowitz in 1933.

Dovid Harris is an Orthodox rabbi who as co-rosh yeshiva ( dean ) heads the Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir HaKohen.
