Young County is a county located in the U. S. state of Texas.

The county is named for William Cocke Young, an early Texas settler and soldier.

The county was created in 1876 from the Bexar and Young land district of Texas.

In 1988 legendary folk music guitarist Doc Watson and Bill Young started the MerleFest music festival in Wilkesboro, the county seat.

The lowest point in the county is to be found along the Rocky Broad River at approximately 1, 200 feet, and the high point is located on Young Pisgah Mountain at approximately 5, 200 feet.

Settlement of the county was slowed by events prior to and during the Civil War, but the present day unincorporated community of Thompsonville ( 3 miles northwest of Perry on the Delaware River ) was the first established in 1851 by Mormon settlers who initially refused to accompany the main group led by Brigham Young to the Salt Lake Valley.

Limerick is widely regarded to be the Irish spiritual home of Rugby union which is very popular in the county, but is mostly focused around Limerick city, which boasts many of Ireland's most celebrated All-Ireland League teams ; Garryowen, Shannon, Old Crescent, Young Munster are among the most prominent.

Young had registered the name of his restaurant, John Young's Wings ' n Things, at the county courthouse before leaving Buffalo in 1970.

The county council, Twf, Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin, the Urdd, Cardigan town council, the local Young Farmers, Menter Aberteifi and the Board are working together in pursuit of its objectives.

Before being elected he was a farmer and is a former county chair of the Young Farmers.

Giles advanced through the county age-groups, and toured Barbados with Surrey Young Cricketers in 1990 / 01.

Young served as a lawyer for Nueces County, Texas in various positions, as assistant county attorney in 1946, assistant district attorney from 1947 to 1950, county attorney from 1951 to 1952 and county judge from 1953 to 1956.

Young persuaded his police authority to fund a building programme that in six years would provide a police house for every married man in the county force ; the design and equipping of these houses was agreed between the county architects and a " housing committee ", recruited through the county Police Federation, not only of men of all ranks but, at Young's insistence, of officers ' wives.

He also worked closely with Young Fine Gael, helping to establish the first branch in the county in March 2004.

Some organizations ( such as Young at Heart Pet Rescue, www. yahpetrescue. org and Old Dog Haven ) work with older animals whose age would likely cause them to be euthanized in county pounds.

The Brazos overflowing, in addition to the flooding of the nearby Salt Creek, resulted in the west side of Graham — the county seat of Young County where flood victims from Eliasville and South Bend had taken shelter — becoming flooded over to within blocks of the Young County Courthouse.

In 1952 Wickremesinghe's wife, the English-born Doreen Young Wickremasinghe, a former leader of the Suriya-Mal Movement, was elected to the Sri Lankan parliament.

The second of the so-called J-missions, the mission was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly.
