Serge and Chaloff
In 1947, Woody Herman formed a band that included tenor saxophonists Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Herbie Steward, and baritone saxophonist Serge Chaloff.

After playing for Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman, Getz was a soloist with Woody Herman from 1947 to 1949 in " The Second Herd ", and he first gained wide attention as one of the band's saxophonists, who were known collectively as ' The Four Brothers ', the others being Serge Chaloff, Zoot Sims and Herbie Steward.
The title also refers to the four musicians that played in the original version: Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Herbie Steward, and Serge Chaloff.
Pepper Adams was in many ways the antithesis of giants of the baritone saxophone Gerry Mulligan and Serge Chaloff.
From 1943 to 1953 he played with Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Marsala, Charlie Parker, Serge Chaloff, Allan Eager, Kai Winding, Terry Gibbs, Brew Moore, Al Cohn, Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, Red Rodney, and Lionel Hampton, and recorded as a leader for Savoy and Blue Note ( 1950 ).
