Its county seat is Dade City and its largest city is New Port Richey.

The issue was finally resolved in the late 1970s with the construction of identical government centers in both Dade City and New Port Richey.

During the Florida land boom of the 1920s, New Port Richey became the winter home of silent screen star Thomas Meighan and golfer Gene Sarazen ; Meighan attempted to bring other Hollywood figures to the city.

Though the county seat is in Dade City, duplicate county government offices and court facilities are also located in the New Port Richey area on the west side of the county.

Holiday is bordered on the South by the City of Tarpon Springs / Pinellas County Line, the Gulf of Mexico on the West ( with access from the Anclote River Park, Gulf Park, and Key Vista Park in Holiday ), The city of New Port Richey to the north, and Trinity / Odessa to the east.

New Port Richey is a city in Pasco County, Florida, United States.

The population was 26, 033 at the 2000 census ( including New Port Richey East ).

By 1914 the area around Orange Lake was being called " new Port Richey " and the older part of Port Richey was called " old Port Richey.

" In 1915 a separate post office was established for the residents of the southern part of Port Richey.

The post office was named New Port Richey, and the name became official.

The growth of the city came about after George Sims purchased the Port Richey Land Company.

He built a home in New Port Richey in 1916.

In 1924 New Port Richey was incorporated.

The first mayor was one of the city's leading citizens, Dr. Elroy M. Avery, an author and educator who came to New Port Richey from Cleveland after he retired in 1919.
