The notion of commitments appeared earliest in works by Manuel Blum, Shimon Even, and Shamir et al.

A more useful form of oblivious transfer called 1-2 oblivious transfer or " 1 out of 2 oblivious transfer ," was developed later by Shimon Even, Oded Goldreich, and Abraham Lempel, in order to build protocols for secure multiparty computation.

Shimon Even (; June 15, 1935 – May 1, 2004 ) was an Israeli computer science researcher.

Shimon Even was the PhD advisor of Oded Goldreich, a prominent cryptographer.

A subsequent improvement by Shimon Even provides an improvement to the running time of the algorithm by storing additional information for each element in the permutation: its position, and a direction ( positive, negative, or zero ) in which it is currently moving ( essentially, this is the same information computed using the parity of the permutation in Johnson's version of the algorithm ).
