Khunjerab Pass ( elevation ) is a high mountain pass in the Karakoram Mountains in a strategic position on the northern border of Pakistan's Gilgit – Baltistan region within the region of Kashmir and on the southwest border of the Xinjiang region of China.

The Khunjerab Pass is the highest paved international border crossing in the world and the highest point on the Karakoram Highway.

It connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range, through the Khunjerab Pass.

“ The boundaries of Taghdumbash, Khunjerab and Raskam, as claimed by the Kanjuts, are the following: the northern watershed of the Taghdumbash Pamir from the Wakhjir Pass through the Baiyik peak to Dafdar, thence across the river to the Zankan nullah ; thence through Mazar and over the range to Urok, a point on the Yarkand river between Sibjaida and Itakturuk.

Except for the Shimshal, Misgar and Chipursan valleys, all the villages of Gojal can be seen from the Karakorum Highway ( KKH ), which crosses Gojal, entering China at the Khunjerab Pass.

There is no link with China however, on February 28, 2007 contracts were awarded for feasibility studies on a proposed line from Havelian via the Khunjerab Pass at 4730 m above sea level, to the Chinese railhead at Kashgar, a distance of about 750 km.

The Tashkurgan River begins just north of the Khunjerab Pass and flows north along the Karakoram Highway to Tashkurgan.

Accommodation is available and it is a recommended overnight stop for road travellers from China to Pakistan in order to have the best chance of crossing the snow-prone Khunjerab Pass in daylight.

Travelling from China, it is about south of Kashgar and is the last town before the border with Pakistan, and over the Khunjerab Pass from Sust, which is the Pakistani border crossing town.
