For the transition to modern algebra, Bartel van der Waerden devotes thirty pages to hypercomplex numbers in his History of Algebra ( 1985 ).

According to Bartel Leendert van der Waerden, Seleucus may have constructed his heliocentric theory by determining the constants of a geometric model and by developing methods to compute planetary positions using this model, as Nicolaus Copernicus later did in the 16th century.

It was called a Siamese dodecahedron in the paper by Freudenthal and van der Waerden which first described it in 1947 in the set of eight convex deltahedra.

It was used in the influential van der Waerden text on abstract algebra from around 1930.
