Walter Matthau ( October 1, 1920 – July 1, 2000 ) was an American actor best known for his role as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and his frequent collaborations with Odd Couple star Jack Lemmon, as well as his role as Coach Buttermaker in the 1976 comedy The Bad News Bears.
His subsequent Broadway appearances included his portrayal in 1965 – 67 of Felix Unger in The Odd Couple ( opposite Walter Matthau and then Jack Klugman as Oscar ).
Jack Klugman and Tony Randall expressed displeasure during the first season of The Odd Couple ( ABC, 1970 – 75 ), which used a laugh track without a live audience.
She was best known as a panelist on the 1970s game show, Match Game and for her recurring role as Blanche Madison opposite her real life husband Jack Klugman on The Odd Couple.
