These chapels are known as the " Chapels of the Tongues ", and they are devoted to St. Ansgar, patron of Denmark, who is venerated as an apostle to the Scandinavian countries ; St. Boniface, apostle of the Germans ; St. Columba, patron of Ireland and Scotland ; St. Savior ( Holy Savior ), devoted to immigrants from the east, especially Africa and Asia ; St. Martin of Tours, patron of the French ; St. Ambrose, patron of Italy ; and St. James, patron of Spain.

On 20 August an operation by British tanks, artillery and infantry captured strongpoints along the St Julien – Poelkappelle road and two days later more ground was gained by XVIII and XIX Corps, which left them still overlooked by the Germans in the uncaptured part of the Wilhelm ( third ) Line.

In 723, the Anglo-Saxon missionary Winfrid — subsequently called St. Boniface, Apostle of the Germans — proselytizing among the Chatti, felled their sacred tree, Thor's Oak, near Fritzlar, as part of his efforts to compel the conversion of the Chatti and the other northern Germanic tribes to Christianity.

The Village ( and surrounding New York City ) would later play central roles in the writings of, among others, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, James Baldwin, Truman Capote, Marianne Moore, Maya Angelou, Rod McKuen, and Dylan Thomas, who collapsed at the Chelsea Hotel and died at St. Vincents Hospital at 170 West 12th Street, in the Village after drinking at the White Horse Tavern on November 5, 1953.

On 15 October 1243, Hedwig died and was buried in Trzebnica Abbey with her husband, while relics of her are preserved at Andechs Abbey and St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin.

St. Ignatius was Bishop of Antioch after Saint Peter and St. Evodius ( who died around 67 ).

Louis Stephen St-Laurent died from natural causes on 25 July 1973, in Quebec City, Quebec, aged 91, and was laid to rest at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in his hometown of Compton, Quebec.

Saint Alcuin had a long career as a teacher and scholar, first at the school at York, founded in AD 627 ( now known as St Peter's School, York ) and later as Charlemagne's leading advisor on ecclesiastical and educational matters.

During his tenure he publicly defended the Dominicans against attacks by the secular and regular faculty of the University of Paris, commented on St John, and answered what he perceived as errors of the Arabian philosopher Averroes.

St Albert's feast day is celebrated on November 15.
