Beria's mother, Marta Ivanovna, was a deeply religious, church-going woman ( she spent so much time in church that she died there ); she was previously married and widowed before marrying Beria's father, Pavel Khukhaevich Beria, a landowner from Abkhazia, Georgia.

His brother's children, Isabella and Peter ( who married María Rodríguez, daughter of El Cid ), died in 1103 and 1104 respectively.

Their daughters Cristina and María both married into the high nobility ; Cristina to Ramiro, Lord of Monzón, grandson of García Sánchez III of Navarre via an illegitimate son ; María, first ( it is said ) to a prince of Aragon ( presumably the son of Peter I ) and second to Ramón Berenguer III, count of Barcelona.
