The late author Sheldon H. The preliminary phase of the Canadian Corps artillery bombardment began on 20 March 1917, with a systematic two-week bombardment of German batteries, trenches and strong points.

* 1863 – American Civil War: Battle of Raymond: two divisions of James B. McPherson's XVII Corps ( ACW ) turn the left wing of Confederate General John C. Pemberton's defensive line on Fourteen Mile Creek, opening up the interior of Mississippi to the Union Army during the Vicksburg Campaign.

The U. S. Marine Corps in South Vietnam also experimented with the M16 rifle in combat during this period.
