Sarah or Sara (; Śarra ; ; Arabic: Sārah ; Persian: Sārā ) was the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac as described in the Hebrew Bible and the Quran.

Isidor Isaac Rabi (; 29 July 1898 – 11 January 1988 ) was a Galician-born American physicist and Nobel laureate, recognized in 1944 for his discovery of nuclear magnetic resonance, which is used in magnetic resonance imaging.

Antoine Isaac, Baron Silvestre de Sacy (; 21 September 1758, Paris – 21 February 1838, Paris ), was a French linguist and orientalist.

Isaac Ilyich Levitan (; August 30, 1860 – ) was a classical Lithuanian-Russian landscape painter who advanced the genre of the " mood landscape ".

Abraham asks God that Ishmael " might live in Thy sight ," ( that is, be favoured ), but God replies that Sarah will bear a son, who will be named Isaac, through whom the covenant will be established.

The anglicized name Isaac is a transliteration of the Hebrew term which literally means " He laughs / will laugh.

In a fuller description, when angels came to Abraham to tell him of the future punishment to be imposed on Sodom and Gomorrah, his wife, Sarah, " laughed, and We gave her good tidings of Isaac, and after Isaac of ( a grandson ) Jacob " ( XI: 71-74 ); and it is further explained that this event will take place despite Abraham and Sarah's old age.

The realization that he had been deceived shocked Isaac, yet he acknowledged that Jacob had received the blessings by adding, " Indeed, he will be remain blessed!

And He is called Angel and Apostle ; for He declares whatever we ought to know, and is sent forth to declare whatever is revealed ; as our Lord Himself says, “ He that heareth Me, heareth Him that sent Me .” From the writings of Moses also this will be manifest ; for thus it is written in them, “ And the Angel of God spoke to Moses, in a flame of fire out of the bush, and said, I am that I am, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, the God of thy fathers ; go down into Egypt, and bring forth My people .” And if you wish to learn what follows, you can do so from the same writings ; for it is impossible to relate the whole here.

But so much is written for the sake of proving that Jesus the Christ is the Son of God and His Apostle, being of old the Word, and appearing sometimes in the form of fire, and sometimes in the likeness of angels ; but now, by the will of God, having become man for the human race, He endured all the sufferings which the devils instigated the Jews to inflict upon Him ; who, though they have it expressly affirmed in the writings of Moses, “ And the angel of God spake to Moses in a flame of fire in a bush, and said, I am that I am, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob ,” yet maintain that He who said this was the Father and Creator of the universe.

George Sylvester Viereck and Paul Eldridge wrote a trilogy of novels My First Two Thousand Years, an Autobiography of the Wandering Jew, ( 1928 ), in which Isaac Laquedem is a Roman soldier who, after being told by Jesus that he will " tarry until I return ," goes on to influence many of the great events of history ; he frequently encounters Solome ( described as ' The Wandering Jewess '), and travels with a companion, to whom he has passed on his immortality via a blood transfusion ( another attempt to do this for a woman he loved ended in her death ).

Sixteenth-century Swiss music theorist and writer Heinrich Glarean claimed Isaac for Germany by dubbing him " Henricus Isaac Germanus ", but in his will Isaac called himself " Ugonis de Flandria ".

On 15 August 1502, Isaac wrote his first will which included names of his proprietors, alluding to the fact that he was doing well to care for his wife and property should anything happen to him.

Isaac also made a point to revise his will on 24 November 1512 in which he requested that a mass be said every year forever at Santissima Annunziata or another church should Annunziata be unable.

Shortly before his death, Isaac wrote a third and final will, which shortened his previous request to instead have a commemorative mass said every year for ten years.

Abraham had been assured by God that “ Your seed will be called through Isaac ” ( Gen. 21: 12 ), i. e., Isaac ( and not Ishmael ) would father a great nation — the Jewish people.

" By saying that we ( as opposed to I ), he meant that both he and Isaac will return.

According to Genesis 25: 25, Isaac and Rebekah named the first son עשו, Esau (` Esav or ` Esaw, meaning " hairy " or " rough ", from, ` asah, " do " or " make "; or " completely developed ", from, ` assui ).

Joseph (, Yosef ; " May Yahweh add ";, ) is an important person in the Hebrew Bible and in the Quran, where he connects the story of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Canaan to the subsequent story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
