The Venus de Milo was added to the Louvre's collection during the reign of Louis XVIII of France | Louis XVIII.

Select sculptures such as Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo were sent to the Château de Valençay.

Initially, the collection focused on marble sculptures, such as the Venus de Milo.

The Louvre holds masterpieces from the Hellenistic era, including The Winged Victory of Samothrace ( 190 BC ) and the Venus de Milo, symbolic of classical art.

In 1820, the statue which became known as the Venus de Milo was discovered on the Greek island of Milo and seen by a French naval officer, Emile Voutier.

Aphrodite of Milos (, Aphroditē tēs Mēlou ), better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture.

Within a few hours Voutier had uncovered Venus de Milo.

The marble base where the Venus de Milo originally stood still resides today on the property of his great, great nephew, Dimitri Moraitis.

The Venus de Milo is a statue of a naked woman with an apple in her raised left hand, the right hand holding a draped sash falling from hips to feet, both hands damaged and separated from the body.
