Stephen Langton ( c. 1150 – 9 July 1228 ) was Archbishop of Canterbury between 1207 and his death in 1228 and was a central figure in the dispute between King John of England and Pope Innocent III, which was a contributing factor to the crisis which led to the issuing of Magna Carta in 1215.

By 1215, under Mongol pressure, they were forced to move their capital south from Zhongdu ( modern day Beijing ) to Kaifeng, where the Mongol hordes extinguished the Jin Dynasty in 1234.

The Battle of Zhongdu ( present-day Beijing ) was a battle in 1215 between the Mongols and the Jurchen Jin Dynasty, which controlled northern China.

Under the name Zhongdu ( 中都, " central capital ", pinyin: Zhōngdū ) the city had earlier served as the capital of the Jin Dynasty, but was burned down in 1215 by Mongol forces.

Interpretations of Magna Carta and the role of the rebel barons in 1215 have been significantly revised: although the charter's symbolic, constitutional value for later generations is unquestionable, in the context of John's reign most historians now consider it a failed peace agreement between " partisan " factions.

The 1215 document contained a large section that is now called clause 61 ( the original document was not actually divided into clauses ).

Llywelyn had now established himself as the leader of the independent princes of Wales, and in December 1215 led an army which included all the lesser princes to capture the castles of Carmarthen, Kidwelly, Llanstephan, Cardigan and Cilgerran.

Hubert and William's two younger brothers were Geoffrey de Burgh and Thomas de Burgh ; Geoffrey became Archdeacon of Norwich ( 1202 ) and then bishop of Ely ( 1225 ), while Thomas was castellan of Norwich ( 1215 – 16 ).

He was also High Sheriff of Dorset and Somerset ( 1200 ), Berkshire ( 1202 ) and Herefordshire ( 1215 ), and castellan of Launceston and Wallingford castles.

John named him Chief Justiciar in June 1215. and appointed him High Sheriff of Surrey ( 1215 ), High Sheriff of Herefordshire ( 1215 ), High Sheriff of Kent ( 1216 – 1222 ), and Governor of Canterbury Castle.
