Yahoel ( Hebrew < big > יהואל </ big >, also spelled Jehoel in some English texts, and Yaoel in French sources ) is the name of an angel appearing in the Old Church Slavonic manuscripts of the Apocalypse of Abraham, a pseudepigraphical work dating from after the Siege of Jerusalem ( 70 ).

Another later pseudepigraphical rabbinical work ascribed to Ishmael ben Elisha, Hebrew 3 Enoch 48d, gives Yahoel as one of the 70 names of Metatron, which makes sense in light of the character and role of Yahoel in Apocalypse of Abraham.

In the 13th Century kabbalistic Berith Menucha of Abraham Merimon of Granada Yahoel is the angel over fire.

The angel Yahoel is sent to Abraham, terrified at the experience, to guide him and to teach him how to perform the sacrifice.

* On Mount Horeb, under the guidance of Yahoel, and assisted by many other angels, Abraham offers up his sacrifice, but not without being disturbed by Azazel, the fallen archangel and seducer of mankind, who, in the form of an unclean bird, swoops down upon the carcasses, and, speaking with a human voice, tries to persuade Abraham to leave the holy place.

Abraham is not seduced and Yahoel fights off Azazel.

Yahoel then adds that the celestial garments, originally set aside for Azazel, now belong to Abraham.

Yahoel teaches Abraham a hymn of praise to be sung, by which they ask the Lord to accept their prayer and the sacrifice made the Lord himself.

Yahoel ( or Iaoel ) in the Apocalypse of Abraham is the mighty angel sent to guide Abraham.

“ And that Christ being Lord, and God the Son of God, and appearing formerly in power as Man, and Angel, and in the glory of fire as at the bush, so also was manifested at the judgment executed on Sodom, has been demonstrated fully by what has been said .” Then I repeated once more all that I had previously quoted from Exodus, about the vision in the bush, and the naming of Joshua ( Jesus ), and continued: “ And do not suppose, sirs, that I am speaking superfluously when I repeat these words frequently: but it is because I know that some wish to anticipate these remarks, and to say that the power sent from the Father of all which appeared to Moses, or to Abraham, or to Jacob, is called an Angel because He came to men ( for by Him the commands of the Father have been proclaimed to men ); is called Glory, because He appears in a vision sometimes that cannot be borne ; is called a Man, and a human being, because He appears arrayed in such forms as the Father pleases ; and they call Him the Word, because He carries tidings from the Father to men: but maintain that this power is indivisible and inseparable from the Father, just as they say that the light of the sun on earth is indivisible and inseparable from the sun in the heavens ; as when it sinks, the light sinks along with it ; so the Father, when He chooses, say they, causes His power to spring forth, and when He chooses, He makes it return to Himself.

Various ships have borne the name Abraham Lincoln, in honor of the 16th President of the United States.

President Abraham Lincoln, in his second inaugural address, in 1865 towards the end of the US Civil War, famously called for good treatment of veterans: " to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan ".

It was in 1814 that Abraham Wharf and his sister sat by a meager fire in their house on Dogtown Common, a desolate place even then.

In the film he is played by F. Murray Abraham, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

The rationalistic method pursued by the new school of Maimonists ( including Levi ben Abraham ben Chayyim of Villefranche, near the town of Perpignan, and Jacob Anatolio ) especially provoked his indignation ; for the sermons preached and the works published by them seemed to resolve the entire Scriptures into allegory and threatened to undermine the Jewish faith and the observance of the Law and tradition.

A phenomenal number of paintings are ascribed to him, some of which are likely to be by other masters of the golden landscape, such as Abraham Calraet ( 1642 – 1722 ), whose initials A. C. may be mistaken for Cuyp's.

His highly influenced style which incorporated Italianate lighting from Jan Both, broken brush technique and atonality from Jan van Goyen, and his ever-developing style from his father Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp was studied acutely by his most prominent follower, Abraham van Calraet.

Lastly and most importantly, the precision in mimicking Cuyp ’ s style by his follower Abraham van Calraet and their contentious signatures makes it all the more difficult to determine which paintings are genuinely that of Cuyp and which ones are actually accurate reproductions in his style.

It is this reluctance which was felt by the Rijksmuseum to reattribute works to other painters ( Abraham van Calraet does not even appear in a Museum catalogue until 1926, and even then he is not given his own entry ) which shows how important it is to art historians that painters are accurately connected to their works — and this is continuously necessary for those of Aelbert Cuyp, as Dordrecht ’ s most famous painter may not in fact be Dordrecht ’ s most famous painter.

The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth is dramatized.

Penny Marshall's 1990 film Awakenings, which was nominated for several Oscars, is based on neurologist Oliver Sacks ' 1973 account of his psychiatric patients at Beth Abraham Hospital in the Bronx who were paralyzed by a form of encephalitis but briefly responded to the drug L-dopa.

“ Jibril said: ‘ You have chosen the Fitrah ( natural instinct ).’ In the second part of the journey, the Mi ' raj ( an Arabic word that literally means “ ladder ”), Buraq takes him to the heavens, where he tours the seven circles of heaven, and speaks with the earlier prophets such as Abraham ( ʾIbrāhīm ), Moses ( Musa ), John the Baptist ( Yaḥyā ibn Zakarīyā ), and Jesus ( Isa ).

The Lenten significance of the Gospel account of Zacchaeus is that it introduces the themes of pious zeal ( Zacchaeus ' climbing up the sycamore tree ; Jesus ' words: " Zacchaeus, make haste "), restraint ( Jesus ' words: " come down "), making a place for Jesus in the heart (" I must abide at thy house "), overcoming gossip (" And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner "), repentance and almsgiving (" And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor ; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold "), forgiveness and reconciliation (" And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham "), and the reason for the Passion and Resurrection (" For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost ").
