There is even a collection of rituals in Latin ( Libri Rituales ) translated from the original Etruscan rites, like those in the Liber Linteus.

The publication of his Variarum Lectionum Libri Tres ( 1567 ), which he dedicated to Cardinal Granvelle, earned him an appointment as a Latin secretary, and a visit to Rome in the retinue of the cardinal.

Three years later Thomas handed the duke a magnum opus, the manuscript of De Etruria Regali Libri Septem, " Seven Books about Royal Etruria ", in the Latin language, the first detailed study of every aspect of Etruscan civilization, considered a brilliant work.

Juraj Tranovský was sometimes called the father of Slovak hymnody and issued several collections of hymns, the first being the Latin Odarum Sacrarum sive Hymnorum Libri III in 1629, but his most important and most famous word was Cithara Sanctorum ( Lyre of the Saints ), written in Czech, which appeared in 1636 in Levoča.

The most well-known Karaite polemic is Yiṣḥaq ben Avraham of Troki's Ḥizzuq Emunah ( חזוק אמונה ) ( Faith Strengthened ), a comprehensive Counter-Missionary polemic, which was later translated into Latin by Wagenseil as part of a larger collection of Jewish anti-Christian polemics entitled Tela Ignea Satanæ, sive Arcani et Horribiles Judæorum Adversus Christum, Deum, et Christianam Religionem Libri ( Altdorf, 1681 ) ( translation: ' The Fiery Darts of Satan, or the Arcane and Horrible Books of the Jews Against Christ, God, and the Christian Religion ').

He is noted for his translation of Geoffrey Chaucer's Troilus and Criseyde into Latin verse ( as rime royal, Amorum Troili et Creseidae Libri Quinque, 1639 ).

He published a Latin edition of the Gesta Danorum in 1645 titled Saxonis Grammatici Historiæ Danicæ Libri XVI.

He made a Latin version of Gesta Danorum in 1534, titled Saxonis Grammatici Danorum Historiae Libri XVI.

The Linen Rolls, Libri Lintei in Latin, were a collection of books written on linen, a technique attributed to the Etruscans.

He edited the Aramaic translation ( known as the Targum ) of the Prophets according to the Codex Reuchlinianus preserved at Carlsruhe, Prophetae chaldaice ( 1872 ), the Hagiographa chaldaice ( 1874 ), an Arabic translation of the Gospels, Die vier Evangelien, arabisch aus der Wiener Handschrift herausgegeben ( 1864 ), a Syriac translation of the Old Testament Apocrypha, Libri V. T. apocryphi syriace ( 1865 ), a Coptic translation of the Pentateuch, Der Pentateuch koptisch ( 1867 ), and a part of the Lucianic text of the Septuagint, which he was able to reconstruct from manuscripts for nearly half the Old Testament.

His chief work is a Historia Francorum, or Libri v de Gestis Francorum, which deals with the history of the Franks from the earliest times to 653, and was continued by other writers until the middle of the twelfth century.

The Libri Haruspicini dealt with divination from the entrails of the sacrificed animal, while the Libri Fulgurales expounded the art of divination by observing lightning.

His book, Opticorum Libri Sex philosophis juxta ac mathematicis utiles ( Six Books of Optics, useful for philosophers and mathematicians alike ), published in Antwerp in 1613, was illustrated by famous painter Peter Paul Rubens.

The stories of his expulsion by the Franks, whose women he was taking ; of his eight-year stay in Thuringia with King Basin and his wife Basina ; of his return when a faithful servant advised him that he could safely do so by sending to him half of a piece of gold which he had broken with him ; and of the arrival in Tournai of Queen Basina, whom he married, come from Gregory of Tours ' Libri Historiarum ( Book ii. 12 ).

His most notable work was his Decem Libri Historiarum or Ten Books of Histories, better known as the Historia Francorum (" History of the Franks "), a title given to it by later chroniclers, but he is also known for his credulous accounts of the miracles of saints, especially four books of the miracles of Martin of Tours.

In the basilica-like space, Burlington attempted an archaeological reconstruction " with doctrinaire exactitude " ( Colvin 1995 ) of the " Egyptian Hall " described by Vitruvius, as it had been interpreted in Palladio's Quattro Libri.

Gregory of Tours in his Libri Historiarum VII, 33, states that in 585 the Merovingian king Guntram designated his nephew Childebert II his heir by handing him his lance, it is possible that a royal lance was a symbol of kingship among the Merovingian kings and that a nail from Calvary was in the 7th century incorporated into this royal lance and thus eventually would have come into the German imperial regalia.

It was probably the first good example of Renaissance art in Verona, and inspired a similar painting by the Veronese artist Girolamo dai Libri.

The art of haruspicy was taught in the Libri Tagetici, a collection of texts attributed to Tages, a childlike being who figures in Etruscan mythology, and who was discovered in an open field by Tarchon.

Telesio writes in the beginning of the Proem of the first book of the third edition of De Rerum Natura Iuxta Propria Principia Libri Ix ... " That the construction of the world and the magnitude of the bodies contained within it, and the nature of the world, is to be searched for not by reason as was done by the ancients, but is to be understood by means of observation.

All three works were combined in a single large volume, entitled De Statu Libri Tres, 1615, which was first brought into due notice by Dr Samuel Parr, who, in 1787, published an edition with a preface, famous for the elegance of its Latinity, in which he eulogized Burke, Fox and Lord North as the " three English luminaries.

After he returned from Rome, he published a second volume of miscellaneous criticism ( Antiquarum Lectionum Libri Quinque, 1575 ); compared with the Variae Lectiones of eight years earlier, it shows that he had advanced from the notion of purely conjectural emendation to that of emending by collation.

In the book Medicina Libri octo, Aulus Cornelius Celsus, influenced by Hippocrates writes, " Much more often, however, some other part is to be rubbed than that which is the seat of the pain ; and especially when we want to withdraw material from the head or trunk, and therefore rub the arms and legs.

The Sibylline Books or Libri Sibyllini were a collection of oracular utterances, set out in Greek hexameters, purchased from a sibyl by the last king of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus, and consulted at momentous crises through the history of the Republic and the Empire.

In Latin texts, on the other hand, Joseph Fontenrose declared himself unable to find any conflation of Apollo with Sol among the Augustan poets of the 1st century, not even in the conjurations of Aeneas and Latinus in Aeneid XII ( 161 – 215 ).

Pope Pius XII introduced optional use of a new translation of the Psalms from the Hebrew to a more classical Latin.

Later, Pope Pius XI on 2 June 1927 decreed the Comma Johanneum was open to dispute and Pope Pius XII on 3 September 1943 decreed the Divino Afflante Spiritu which allowed translations based on other versions than just the Latin Vulgate, notably in English the New American Bible.

In the English-speaking world, the Douay-Rheims Bible — translated from the Latin Vulgate by expatriate recusants in Rheims, France in 1582 ( New Testament ) and in Douai, France in 1609 ( Old Testament )— which was revised by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749 – 1752 ( the 1750 revision is that which is printed today ), was, until the prompting for " new translations from the original languages " given by Pope Pius XII in the 1942 encyclical letter Divino afflante spiritu and the Second Vatican Council, the translation used by most Catholics ( after Divino afflante spiritu, translations multiplied in the Catholic world, just as they multiplied in the Protestant world around the same time beginning with the Revised Standard Version, with various other translations being used around the world for English-language liturgies, ranging from the New American Bible, the Jerusalem Bible, the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition, and the upcoming English Standard Version Catholic lectionary ).

Established by Pope Pius XII on 19 April 1958, it is charged with providing assistance to and examining matters pertaining to the Church in Latin America.

Sedevacantism ( derived from the Latin words sedes " seat " und vacans " vacant ")") is the position, held by a minority of Traditionalist Catholics, that the present occupant of the papal see is not truly Pope and that, for lack of a valid Pope, the see has been vacant since the death of either Pope Pius XII in 1958 or Pope John XXIII in 1963.

Thence, however, he continued to govern his diocese, while he found leisure for the preparation of two of the most important of his contributions to dogmatic and polemical theology: the De synodis or De fide Orientalium, an epistle addressed in 358 to the Semi-Arian bishops in Gaul, Germany and Britain, expounding the true views ( sometimes veiled in ambiguous words ) of the Eastern bishops on the Nicene controversy ; and the De trinitate libri XII, composed in 359 and 360, in which, for the first time, a successful attempt was made to express in Latin the theological subtleties elaborated in the original Greek.

The Latin rock inscription close to Boyukdash mountain in Qobustan, Baku, which mentions Legio XII Fulminata, is the world's easternmost Roman evidence known.

Some historians argue that the actual settlement of Ramana near Baku was possibly founded by the Roman troops of Lucius Julius Maximus from Legio XII Fulminata in circa 84-96 AD and derives its name from the Latin Romana .< ref >

" In order to eliminate misunderstanding on this point, Pope Pius XII ordered in 1955 that, in Catholic liturgical books, the Latin word " perfidis " be properly translated " unbelieving ", ensuring that the prayer be understood in its original sense: praying for the Jews who remained " unbelieving " concerning the Messiah.

In 1943 Pope Pius XII issued an encyclical letter, Divino Afflante Spiritu, which encouraged Roman Catholics to translate the Scriptures from the original Hebrew and Greek, rather than from Jerome's Latin Vulgate.

Prior to the reform of 1955, when Pope Pius XII abolished all but three liturgical octaves, the Latin Church celebrated Epiphany as an eight-day feast, known as the Octave of Epiphany, beginning on 6 January and ending on 13 January.

On 11 April 1946, Pope Pius XII established the episcopal hierarchy in China, raising all the apostolic vicariates to dioceses, Hong Kong among them, through an Apostolic Constitution in Latin sent to each Vicar Apostolic together with a letter from the Apostolic Internuncio, Anthony Riberi, in the summer of 1946.

The former, a classicizing Latin epic poem in XII books and composed in three redactions, gives some very interesting details about Philip Augustus and his time, including some information about military matters, and shows that William was an excellent Latin scholar.
