BSC later arranged an exchange deal with Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds Ltd ( GKN ), the parent company of GKN Steel, under which BSC acquired Dowlais Ironworks at Merthyr Tydfil and GKN took over BSC's Brymbo Steelworks near Wrexham.

During the 1980s and 1990s the Stocksbridge works was part of the United Engineering Steels group ( a joint venture between British Steel and GKN ) and was known as " Stocksbridge Engineering Steels ".

He joined GKN Rolled and Bright Steel Ltd. as an industrial scholar in 1976.

Other former industry included railway rolling stock manufacture, at the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company factory ; screws and other fastenings from Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds ( GKN ), engines from Tangye, tubing from Evered's, steel pen nibs from British Pens and various products from Chance Brothers ' glassworks, including lighthouse lenses and the glazing for the Crystal Palace ( the London works, in North Smethwick, manufactured its metalwork ).

The British side of the group traces its origins to 1759, with the establishment of the Dowlais Iron Company in Dowlais, Wales, which later became part of GKN.

GKN acquired another fastener manufacturer, F. W. Cotterill Ltd., in 1919: Cotterill already owned a subsidiary named J. W. Garrington, which specialised in forgings, and it was the forgings produced at the Garrington Darlaston plant, later supplemented by a large plant at Bromsgrove, that enabled GKN to become a major supplier of crankshafts, connecting rods, half-shafts and numerous smaller forged components to the UK auto-industry during and beyond the period of massive expansion between the two world wars.

The next year, in 1920, GKN purchased the steel company John Lysaght and their subsidiary, Joseph Sankey and Sons Ltd. Joseph Sankey was an orphan from Bilston whose career had started with an apprenticeship to a manufacturer of steel tea trays.

In 1966, in a programme of diversification, GKN acquired Birfield Ltd, a company that since 1938 had incorporated both the Sheffield based overdrive manufacturer, Laycock Engineering, and Hardy Spicer Limited of Birmingham, England, a manufacturer of constant-velocity joints.

Major present-day employers include BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies ( Insyte ), which occupies the site of the old Somerton Aerodrome at Newport Road, Cowes ; and GKN Aerospace in East Cowes.

Steel Company of Wales, a British steelmaker, wants to bring in Virginia coal, cut down on its takings of Welsh coal in order to be able to compete more effectively -- especially in foreign markets.

He built Pittsburgh's Carnegie Steel Company, which was later merged with Elbert H. Gary's Federal Steel Company and several smaller companies to create U. S. Steel.

In the 1870s, he founded the Carnegie Steel Company, a step which cemented his name as one of the " Captains of Industry ".

Carnegie combined his assets and those of his associates in 1892 with the launching of the Carnegie Steel Company.

Carnegie's empire grew to include the J. The conflict was centered on Carnegie Steel's main plant in Homestead, Pennsylvania, and grew out of a dispute between the National Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers of the United States and the Carnegie Steel Company.

Over the course of twenty years, Carnegie ’ s steel properties grew to include the Edgar Thomson Steel Works, the Lucy Furnace Works, the Union Iron Mills, the Homestead Works, the Keystone Bridge Works, the Hartman Steel Works, the Frick Coke Company, and the Scotia ore mines among many other industry related assets.

Prior to 1939, as a part of National Steel Car Ltd. of Hamilton, the concern had been one of a number of shadow factories set up in Canada to produce British aircraft designs in safety.

Roe Canada Ltd. purchased a number of companies, including Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation, Canada Car and Foundry ( 1957 ), and Canadian Steel Improvement.
