Jasper Tudor, 1st Duke of Bedford, 1st Earl of Pembroke, KG ( Welsh: Siasbar Tudur ) ( c. 1431 – 21 / 26 December 1495 ) was the uncle of King Henry VII of England and the architect of his successful conquest of England and Wales in 1485.
When Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond ( descended from the great Welsh House of Tudur ) seized the English throne in 1485, becoming Henry VII, no change was made to the system of governing Wales.
Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond ( 1430 – 1 or 3 November 1456 ), also known as Edmund of Hadham ( Welsh: Edmwnd Tudur ), was the father of King Henry VII of England and a member of the Tudor family of Penmynydd, North Wales.
His chronicle records the ' Welsh Revolt ', in 1403, when Owain Glyndŵr burned Usk to the ground while gaining control of much of South Wales from the English under King Henry IV and his son, later to become King Henry V. The important Battle of Pwll Melyn in 1405 occurred immediately north of Usk Castle, when English forces routed their Welsh opponents, causing much loss of life, including that of Owain's brother Tudur.
In the 14th century, a resident of Penmynydd, Tudur ap Goronwy, had five sons, one of whom was called Maredudd ( the father of Owen Tudor-an Anglicisation of his Welsh name Owain ap Maredudd ap Tudur ) who joined Henry V's army and subsequently established himself at court.
