Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia from 1762 – 1796, was a member of the House of Ascania, herself the daughter of Christian August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst.

By 1525 Henry was infatuated with his mistress Anne Boleyn and dissatisfied that his marriage to Catherine had produced no surviving sons, leaving their daughter, the future Mary I of England, as heiress presumptive at a time when there was no established precedent for a woman on the throne.

On 31 January 1510, Catherine gave birth prematurely to a stillborn daughter.

His grandfather, Thomas Francis, founder of the Carignano line of the House of Savoy, was the son of Catherine Michelle – a daughter of Philip II of Spain – and the great-grandson of the Emperor Charles V. But of more immediate consequence to Leopold I was the fact that Eugene was the second cousin of Victor Amadeus, the Duke of Savoy, a connection that the Emperor hoped might prove useful in any future confrontation with France.

Aberdeen married firstly Lady Catherine Elizabeth ( 1784 – 1812 ), daughter of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Abercorn, and assumed by Royal license the additional surname of Hamilton in 1818.

Their daughter, Catherine, married Francis Hueffer ; through Catherine, Brown was the grandfather of novelist Ford Madox Ford and great-grandfather of Labour Home Secretary Frank Soskice.

In 1805, he married Lady Catherine Elizabeth, daughter of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Abercorn.

Lord Aberdeen married Lady Catherine Elizabeth, daughter of Lord Abercorn, in 1805.

His third wife was Emilie of Saxony ( July 27, 1516 – March 9, 1591 ), daughter of Henry IV, Duke of Saxony and Catherine of Mecklenburg on August 25, 1533:

Both Warbeck and the Earl of Warwick were too dangerous to keep around even in captivity, and Henry had to execute them in 1499 before Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain would allow their daughter Catherine to come to England and marry his son Arthur.

He married the widowed Catherine of Aragon, and they had several children, but none survived infancy except a daughter, Mary.

Peter I was succeeded by his second wife ( Catherine I, 1725 – 1728 ) who was merely a figure-head for a powerful group of high officials, then by his minor grandson ( Peter II, 1728 – 1730 ), then by his niece, Anna, daughter of Tsar Ivan V. In 1741 Elizabeth, daughter of Peter, seized the throne, assisted by the Preobrazhensky Regiment.

While serving abroad, Adams married Louisa Catherine Johnson, the daughter of an American merchant, in a ceremony at the church of All Hallows-by-the-Tower, London.

John Quincy Adams and Louisa Catherine ( Johnson ) Adams had three sons and a daughter.

Joachim Frederick's first marriage on 8 January 1570 was to Catherine of Brandenburg-Küstrin, daughter of John, Margrave of Brandenburg-Küstrin, and Catherine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel.

On November 30, 1860, Agassiz's daughter Pauline was married to Quincy Adams Shaw ( 1825 – 1908 ), a wealthy Boston merchant and later benefactor to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Edward Stratemeyer and Howard Garis wrote most of the volumes in the original series ; Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, wrote the last three volumes.

Benson and Harriet Adams ( Stratemeyer's daughter ) are often credited as the primary writers of Nancy Drew books under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene ; other ghostwriters who used this name to write Nancy Drew mysteries included James Duncan Lawrence, Walter Karig, Nancy Axelrad, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., Margaret Scherf, and Susan Wittig Albert.

Although Adams ' father approved of the match, her mother was appalled that her daughter would marry a country lawyer whose manners still reeked of the farm, but eventually she gave in.
