In the 1990s New Cross club, The Venue was central to the Indie Rock and Brit Pop scenes and played host to gigs by many of their finest purveyors including Oasis, Radiohead, Pulp, Squeeze, Levellers, Cast, Shed Seven, Sleeper, Cornershop, Bluetones, Suede, PJ Harvey, Catherine Wheel, Belly, Ocean Colour Scene, Lush, Chumbawamba, Ash, Mudhoney, and Hole.

Hole recorded their second album, Live Through This, in late 1993 in Atlanta and released it in April 1994, just four days after Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, was found dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound in their home.

Nobody's Daughter was released worldwide as a Hole album on April 27, 2010.

Former Hole drummer Samantha Maloney filled in on the tour to promote the album.

In 1996 a tribute album titled A Small Circle of Friends appeared that featured tracks by Mike Watt, Free Kitten, The Melvins, Meat Puppets, that dog., L7, The Posies, NOFX, Flea, Gumball, and others along with a version of " Circle One " performed by Pat Smear with Hole under the name " The Holez ".

Among other things, the podcast featured the band's thoughts about their 2005 South American tour, some information on their new album, a mash-up of " Drive " and Tupac Shakur's " Better Dayz ", a cover of Soundgarden's " Black Hole Sun ", and a few live interludes.

A studio cast recording of the film's songs was released by Decca soon after the film, with Danny Kaye, Jane Wyman, and a backup chorus singing the songs from the film, also including two Sylvia Fine originals made specifically for the album, " Uncle Pockets " and " There's a Hole at the Bottom of the Sea ", and Danny Kaye's narration of two Tubby the Tuba stories by Paul Tripp.

It has been noted that several songs from the Babes In Toyland's debut album shared lyrics and verses with several songs by Hole, most notably Hole's first several singles, including b-sides from " Retard Girl " and " Dicknail ".

Hole achieved considerable commercial and critical success throughout the 1990s, initially releasing singles through independent labels in L. A. and debuting with their caustic noise rock-influenced Pretty on the Inside ( 1991 ), and later gaining near-unanimous critical acclaim with their 1994 album Live Through This.

Despite the dispute between Erlandson and Love, the new Hole album was released in April 2010 and the band toured Europe and North America in support of the record.

Hole began planning a second album in 1992, in the midst of Love's pregnancy and marriage to Cobain.

After the band's tour concluded, Hole entered the studio to begin work on a new album.

Hole and Marilyn Manson toured together, with Manson promoting his then-recent album, Mechanical Animals ( 1998 ) on the " Beautiful Monsters Tour ".

However, days later, Melissa Auf der Maur, interviewed in Toronto where she was appearing at the North by Northeast music festival, said she had " no clue " about the band's reported reunion and denied the NME claim she had, or was asked to, contribute vocals to the album or had been asked to tour with the purportedly reunited band saying, " I actually don't know the reunion ... I arrived at music festival in Toronto and I heard that Hole were getting back together from people sending me links ," she said.

She joined Hole two weeks before the Reading Festival and recorded the album Celebrity Skin with the band, ultimately leaving on October 20, 1999, after her 5-year contract with the band had come to an end.

In June 2009, Love announced through an NME blog that Hole was re-forming, with Auf der Maur on bass and Micko Larkin, who is Love's lead guitarist, on her upcoming album.

The single was a success and Veruca Salt accompanied Hole on a tour, before releasing their first full-length album, American Thighs, which eventually reached Gold status.

On April 21, 2009, Booker T. released Potato Hole, a new album in collaboration with the band Drive-By Truckers and featuring Neil Young on guitar.

Johnson is also referred to in the John Peel session version of the Hole song, " Olympia " ( also credited as " Rock Star " on the album Live Through This ).

" The album includes Earle's version of Tom Waits ' song " Way Down in the Hole " which was the theme song for the fifth season of The Wire in which Earle appeared as the character Walon.

The original members reunited once again in 2004 for the release of its fifth album, Fire in the Hole, their first release on an independent label, Babygrande Records.

The album launched several successful singles, including " Spoonman " and " Black Hole Sun ", and granted Soundgarden international recognition.

In 2009 he released a new solo album, Potato Hole, recorded with the Drive By Truckers, and featuring Neil Young.
