These scholars also maintain that Jesus was the only human ever elected and that individuals must be " in Christ " ( Eph 1: 3 – 4 ) through faith to be part of the elect.

It appears that these teachers taught a form of docetism in which Jesus came to earth as a spirit without a real body of flesh ( 4. 2 ) that his death on the cross was not as a true atonement for sins ( 1. 7 ).

The purpose of the author ( 1: 1 – 4 ) is to declare the Word of Life to those to whom he writes, in order that they might be united in fellowship with the Father and his Son Jesus Christ.

* The birthdates of John the Baptist and Jesus are not generally known, but 5 BC is often assumed to be the date.

* Possible birthdate of Jesus, according to appearance of a very bright triple conjunction of the royal star Jupiter and Saturn in the sign of Pisces ( land in the west ) in May until December of that year since 854 years, with a retrogradation and stationing in November 12, 7 BC.

Because the birth of Jesus was nine calendar months later, Dionysius implied, but never stated, that Jesus was born 25 December 1 BC.

But it was written about 150 BC, and many have understood these verses ( 12-20 of chapter 2 ) as a direct prophecy of Jesus ’ Passion.

However, many scholars see a contradiction, in that while the Gospel of Matthew places Jesus ' birth under the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BC, the Gospel of Luke also dates the birth ten years after Herod's death during the census of Quirinius, described by the historian Josephus.

By working backwards from the start of his ministry, some scholars estimate the year 28 AD to be roughly the 32nd birthday of Jesus and his year of birth to be around 6-4 BC.
