Argon ( αργος, Greek meaning " inactive ", in reference to its chemical inactivity ) was suspected to be present in air by Henry Cavendish in 1785 but was not isolated until 1894 by Lord Rayleigh and Sir William Ramsay in Scotland in an experiment in which they removed all of the oxygen, carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen from a sample of clean air.

Born in London and baptised on 24 January 1664, Vanbrugh was the fourth child ( of 19 ), and eldest surviving son, of Giles Vanbrugh, a London cloth-merchant of Flemish-Protestant background, and his wife Elizabeth, widow of Thomas Barker ( by whom Vanbrugh's mother had the first of her twenty children, Vanbrugh's elder half-sister, Elizabeth ), and daughter of Sir Dudley Carleton, of Imber Court, Thames Ditton, Surrey.

Its staff took the outline plan for Operation Overlord created by Lieutenant General Sir Frederick E. Morgan, COSSAC ( Chief of Staff to the Supreme Commander Allied Forces ), and Major General Ray Barker.

Sir Herbert Atkinson Barker ( 21 April 1869 – 21 July 1950 ) was an English manipulative surgeon.

In 1969, with planner Sir Peter Hall and the editor of New Society magazine Paul Barker, he published Non-plan, a work challenging planning orthodoxy.
