The church has an open canon which includes four scriptural texts: the Bible ( both Old and New Testaments ), the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

* October 10, 1880-The Pearl of Great Price was unanimously accepted as scripture.

* April 3, 1976-Two visions ( one received by Joseph Smith and the other by Joseph F. Smith ) were accepted as scripture and added to the Pearl of Great Price.

The Pearl of Great Price is a selection of material produced by Joseph Smith, Jr. and deals with many significant aspects of the faith and doctrine of the Church.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ), The Doctrine and Covenants of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stands alongside the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and The Pearl of Great Price as holy scripture.

The revelations were earlier accepted as scripture when added to The Pearl of Great Price in April 1976.

Mormons have a scriptural canon consisting of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and a collection of revelations and writings by Joseph Smith known as the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.

This book is believed to be the translated writings of Moses, and is included in the Pearl of Great Price.

After Smith's death, the identification as " Nephi " was repeated when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints published its first edition of the Pearl of Great Price.

In the version of Smith's 1838 history published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as well as the portion canonized by that denomination as the Pearl of Great Price, the name " Nephi " has been changed by editors to read " Moroni ".

The Parable of the Pearl ( also called the Pearl of Great Price ) is a parable of Jesus of Nazareth.

This interpretation of the parable is the inspiration for a number of hymns, including the Swedish hymn Den Kos ­ tli ­ ga Pärlan ( O That Pearl of Great Price!

The phrase " Pearl of Great Price " has also been interpreted more widely to apply to things of great value in a number of religious contexts.

The Book of Abraham was canonized in 1880 by the LDS church, and it remains an important part of the larger scriptural work, The Pearl of Great Price.

The Church of Christ ( Temple Lot ) rejects the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price, as well as Joseph Smith's Inspired Version of the Bible, preferring to use only the King James Bible and the Book of Mormon as doctrinal standards.

There has been an exegetical trend during the last several decades to draw endless parallels to text from the ancient Near East and beyond in an attempt to validate the writings in the Book of Mormon and Pearl of Great Price.

The publication was the first to include such significant Latter Day Saint documents as The Wentworth Letter, a construction of the King Follett Discourse, the Book of Abraham ( which was later canonized in 1880 by the LDS Church as part of their Pearl of Great Price ), the personal history of Joseph Smith, Jr., and the announcement of the assassination of Joseph and Hyrum Smith.

The city is also the setting of the children's novel The Black Pearl ( 1967 ) by Scott O ' Dell, chosen as a Newbery Honor Book in 1968.

In her thirty-year career, Agnes Driscoll broke Japanese Navy manual codes -- the Red Book Code in the 1920s, and the Blue Book Code in 1930, and in 1940 she made critical inroads into JN-25, the Japanese fleet's operational code, which the U. S. Navy exploited after the attack on Pearl Harbor for the rest of the Pacific War.

The vision of Moses and the Book of Enoch works were originally published separately by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ) in 1851, but later combined and published as the Book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price, one of the four books of the Mormon scriptural canon.

A footnote to Moses 5: 31 in the LDS Church edition of the Pearl of Great Price states that "' Mind ,' ' destroyer ,' and ' great one ' are possible meanings of the roots evident in ' Mahan '" but no further explanation is provided.
