Porsche engineers wanted a large-displacement motor to power the 928, and prototype units were built with a 5. 0 L V8 producing close to.

The Mercedes V6, although designed to be built on the same assembly lines as the V8, used split crankpins, a counter-rotating balancing shaft, and careful acoustic design to make it almost as smooth as the inline-6 it replaced.

The ' Caterham Levante ', built by RS Performance Engine Developments Ltd. ( RS = Russell Savory ), is a mostly-carbon-fibre bodied Caterham, with Kevlar seats, combined with an " over 500bhp " 2. 4-litre, 40-valve supercharged V8 and a reduced body weight of boasts almost per tonne ( initial announced specifications were and, but the RS website specifies " in excess of 500bhp ," and or ; the math may or may not achieve " over per tonne ").

In addition, they were built on the-lighter Ford 300 chassis, originally intended for a smaller-displacement V8.

The first 211 XB GTs built were fitted with a US-built version of the Cleveland V8 known as the ' big port ' engine, and later XB GTs were fitted with an Australian-built version of the engine with ' small port ' heads.

For Audi in their Audi S8 5. 2 FSI quattro, the V10 was a compromise between a V12 which would be too long and suffer more internal friction due to extra cylinders and values, and a V8 which would be more compact but have larger heavier pistons and produce lower revs.

As a cheaper alternative to the existing ( but updated ) W12 engine, the new model can have a twin-turbo 4-litre V8 engine ( developed jointly with Audi ).

The 6. 0L W12 in the Audi A8L W12 ( only offered in the long wheelbase models ) is slightly smaller overall than the 4. 2L V8 that powers the Audi A8 4. 2 variants.
