On September 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda Islamic extremists hijacked American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Airlines Flight 93 and crashed them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the southwestern side of the Pentagon building, and Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania in a terrorist attack.

United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field as flight attendants and passengers — who had heard about the other three hijacked planes ramming into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon — fought hijackers who were likely flying to crash the plane either into the White House or the United States Capitol.

The evacuation of Aon's offices, ordered by Eric Eisenberg, was carried out quickly as 925 of the 1, 100 Aon employees present at the time managed to evacuate the building before United Airlines Flight 175 struck it twenty stories below them.

A former law student and muezzin, Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Nami ( Arabic: أحمد بن عبد الله النامي, ; also transliterated as Alnami ) < span dir =" ltr ">( December 7, 1977 – September 11, 2001 )</ span > was one of four hijackers of United Airlines Flight 93 as part of the September 11 attacks.

On September 11, 2001, Nami arrived in Newark to board United Airlines Flight 93 along with Saeed al-Ghamdi, Ahmed al-Haznawi and Ziad Jarrah.

Ahmed Ibrahim al-Haznawi (, ) ( October 11, 1980 – September 11, 2001 ) was one of four hijackers of United Airlines Flight 93 as part of the September 11 attacks.

On September 11, 2001, Haznawi boarded United Airlines Flight 93 and assisted in the hijacking of the plane, which crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after a passenger uprising.

Jarrah and Haznawi both received their one-way tickets for United Airlines Flight 93, on September 5.

On June 30, 1951, United Airlines Flight 610, a US transcontinental San Francisco – Oakland – Salt Lake City – Denver – Chicago service flown by the Douglas DC-6 aircraft Mainliner Overland Trail ( registration N37543 ) crashed in Larimer County, northwest of Denver.

In 1961, service to the United States ( Miami ) was originated with four engined Douglas DC-6 airliners.

In 1938, at the insistence of Arturo Toscanini, Steinberg left Germany for the United States, by way of Switzerland.
