Iron Maiden's eighth studio release, 1990's No Prayer for the Dying, had a raw sound that, according to Allmusic, did not " hold up well " compared to past efforts, as it was recorded in a barn which Steve Harris owned, with a mobile studio owned by the Rolling Stones.

Greg Prato of Allmusic described Chinatown as a " letdown " compared to the previous album Black Rose: A Rock Legend, blaming the absence of Gary Moore and producer Tony Visconti, and the drug problems experienced by Lynott and Gorham.

Allmusic. com has compared the bands style to the shoegazing music played by Ride, Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel.

It has a dance-oriented beat that has been compared by Jennifer Vineyard of MTV and Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic to No Doubt's 2002 single " Hella Good ".

The Allmusic review by Marc Gilman awarded the album 4½ stars noting that " While some compositions retain their original structure and sound, some are expanded and probed by Zorn's arrangements, and resemble avant-garde classical music more than jazz.

The trio's 2000 studio recording, entitled " Don't Be Scared Anymore ", received reviews of " This album is like the soundtrack to the world's coolest vacation " from All About Jazz and " Jazz-rock in the truest sense " from Allmusic.

Skyclad began as a thrash metal band but added violins from session musician Mike Evans on several tracks from their debut album, The Wayward Sons of Mother Earth, an effort described by Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic as " ambitious " and " groundbreaking.

Allmusic gave The Gang's All Here a score of three out of five stars, and said that while the album " up the expected us-against-the-world pose ," its songwriting was of a higher standard than contemporary punk albums.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic. com gave the album three of out five stars, stating, " The worst you can say about the record is that there are no surprises, but the audience for this record doesn't want surprises ; they want comfort, whether it arrives in polished music or artsy photos of newborns, and Miracle provides both, which makes it appealing for those expectant or new mothers in Dion's audience.

Allmusic gave the album four out of five start, stating " thanks to LA Reid and Babyface's production and Pink's engaging talents, it's a promising first effort all the same.

In a retrospective review, Allmusic gave it 4. 5 stars out of 5, calling it a " fascinating collection ", and stating that " Zappa's anything-goes approach and the distance between his extremes are what make Weasels Ripped My Flesh ultimately invigorating " In his book Viva Zappa !, Dominique Chevalier wrote that the album is " one of Zappa's most aggressively bizarre works, full of cross-references to free jazz and modern classical musicians such as Luciano Berio.
