The fifteenth name was ( Thomas ) Baldwin, admitted to Christ's 4 March 1625 under Alsop.

Andrew's first mission to the East was when he was asked by the French king Louis IX to go and fetch the Crown of Thorns which had been sold to him by the Latin Emperor of Constantinople Baldwin II in 1238, who was anxious to obtain support for his tottering empire.

Amalric was the second son of Melisende of Jerusalem and Fulk of Jerusalem, and succeeded his older brother Baldwin III.

He was the father of three future rulers of Jerusalem, Sibylla, Baldwin IV, and Isabella I.

Amalric was born in 1136 to King Fulk, the former count of Anjou who had married the heiress of the kingdom, Melisende, daughter of King Baldwin II.

After the death of Fulk in a hunting accident in 1143, the throne passed jointly to Melisende and Amalric's older brother Baldwin III, who was still only 13 years old.

Amalric, who had been given the County of Jaffa as an apanage when he reached the age of majority in 1151, remained loyal to Melisende in Jerusalem, and when Baldwin invaded the south, Amalric was besieged in the Tower of David with his mother.

Melisende was defeated in this struggle and Baldwin ruled alone thereafter.

In 1153 Baldwin captured the Egyptian fortress of Ascalon, which was then added to Amalric's fief of Jaffa ( see Battle of Ascalon ).

Baldwin III died on 10 February 1163 and the kingdom passed to Amalric, although there was some opposition among the nobility to Agnes ; they were willing to accept the marriage in 1157 when Baldwin III was still capable of siring an heir, but now the Haute Cour refused to endorse Amalric as king unless his marriage to Agnes was annulled.

During Baldwin III's reign, the County of Edessa, the first crusader state established during the First Crusade, was conquered by Zengi, the Turkic emir of Aleppo.

" Like his brother Baldwin III, he was more of an academic than a warrior, who studied law and languages in his leisure time: " He was well skilled in the customary law by which the kingdom was governed – in fact, he was second to no one in this respect.

The pro-Ibelin Chronicle of Ernoul later claimed that he was her lover, but it is likely that she and Baldwin IV were attempting to separate him from the political influence of his wife's family.

His first wife, married before October 29, 1174, was Eschiva of Ibelin ( c. 1160 – Cyprus in Winter 1196 – 1197 ), daughter of Baldwin of Ibelin and first wife Richilde de Bethsan or Bessan.

He was poisoned at Caesarea, either by Eleanor of Aquitaine, the wife of Louis, or Melisende, the mother of Baldwin III, king of Jerusalem suggesting the draught.

Baldwin appears as a minor character in several novels, notably Zofia Kossak-Szczucka's Król trędowaty ( The Leper King ), Graham Shelby's The Knights of Dark Renown, and Cecelia Holland's Jerusalem, as a sickly small child.

When Baldwin IV finally succumbed to his leprosy in 1185, Baldwin V became King, but he was a sickly child and died within a year.

However, Baldwin seems to have been sickly, and died at Acre in 1186.

The leprous child Baldwin IV succeeded his father and brought his mother Agnes of Courtenay ( now married to her fourth husband ) back to court.

Until this time, Mike Baldwin had been portrayed as an only child, with his father appearing in the programme between 1980 and 1982 confirming the fact.

With a woman and a child ruling Jerusalem, the political situation was somewhat tense ; the northern crusader states of Tripoli, Antioch, and Edessa increasingly asserted their independence, and there was no king to impose the suzerainty of Jerusalem as Baldwin II or Fulk had done.

The child was crowned co-king as Baldwin V on November 20, 1183.

Raymond III of Tripoli, first cousin of their father Amalric I of Jerusalem, had been bailli or regent for Baldwin IV while the latter was a child, but once the king came of age in 1176 his power began to recede.

It had been agreed that, should Baldwin V die as a child, the kingdom could be claimed either by his mother Sibylla or his aunt Isabella, the only surviving children of his grandfather Amalric I.

Following the regencies of Baldwin II of Jerusalem ( 1130 – 1131 ) and Fulk of Jerusalem ( 1131 – 1136 ), Raymond assumed control of the principality of Antioch by his marriage in 1136 to the heiress of Bohemund II of Antioch, Constance, a child of ten years of age.

Helene was in the way to marry ( possibly ) Philip, son of Baldwin II when this happened. Thopia's emblem contain three lillys separated by a dotted line, indicating an illegitimate child.

The child was crowned co-king as Baldwin V in 1183 in a ceremony presided by Raymond.

Baldwin V, never a healthy child, died in summer 1186.

Percy Faith, the 1950s composer and band leader, lived as a child at 171 Baldwin Street.

However, Baldwin IV died in 1185 and Baldwin V died as a child soon afterwards.

Darwin's work on infant development and child psychology inspired other academics, such as the German psychologist William Preyer and the American James Mark Baldwin, who acknowledged Darwin's influence in his 1913 History of Psychology.

The Evidence of Things Not Seen is a 1985 nonfiction book by James Baldwin about the Wayne Williams Atlanta child murders of 1979-1981.

Raymond III of Tripoli, who had previously been regent for the kingdom, refused to accept Guy of Lusignan as king, following the death of the child king, Baldwin V ( Guy's stepson ) the previous year.

Agnes bore Amalric three children: Sibylla, the future Baldwin IV ( both of whom would come to rule the kingdom in their own right ), and Alix, who died in childhood.

The crusaders had wanted to conquer Egypt since the days of Baldwin I, who died during an expedition there.

The Village ( and surrounding New York City ) would later play central roles in the writings of, among others, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, James Baldwin, Truman Capote, Marianne Moore, Maya Angelou, Rod McKuen, and Dylan Thomas, who collapsed at the Chelsea Hotel and died at St. Vincents Hospital at 170 West 12th Street, in the Village after drinking at the White Horse Tavern on November 5, 1953.

Baldwin died without heirs in 1118, during a campaign against Egypt, and the kingdom was offered to his brother Eustace III of Boulogne, who had accompanied Baldwin and Godfrey on the crusade.

When Baldwin died childless in 1162, a year after his mother Melisende, the kingdom passed to his brother Amalric, who renewed the alliance negotiated by Baldwin.

After William of Montferrat arrived in 1176, he fell ill and died in June 1177, leaving Sibylla widowed and pregnant with the future Baldwin V. Raynald was then named regent.

Stephen's middle son, Baldwin, and second daughter, Matilda, had died before 1147 and were buried at Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate.

Another concern was the death of Count Baldwin VI of Flanders, who died in July 1070.

Baldwin II suspected that once he had died, Fulk would repudiate Melisende, set her and her children aside in favor of Elias, Fulk's younger but full grown son from his first marriage as an heir to Jerusalem.

When Baldwin II died the next year in 1131, Melisende and Fulk ascended to the throne as joint rulers.

Amalric died in 1174, and Baldwin IV succeeded him as king.

Around 300 knights were killed, including Louis of Blois, Duke of Nicaea and Baldwin was captured and later died in captivity.

When his youngest brother king Baldwin I of Jerusalem died in 1118, the elderly Eustace was offered the throne.

She died on August 3, 1964, at the age of 39, of complications from lupus, at Baldwin County Hospital and was buried in Milledgeville, Georgia, at Memory Hill Cemetery.
