The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway ( E & BASR ) is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England, ( formed in 1968 and re-opened in 1979 ).

This plan went ahead and Embsay railway station was refurbished throughout the second half of the 70's and reopened in 1981.

The E & BASR currently runs for a total distance of from Embsay via Draughton Sidings, Holywell and Stoneacre Loop to Bolton Abbey station.

To the west of Embsay station, a run-round loop was built for locomotives to run round.

This is near the site of the former Embsay Junction, which was disconnected when the line closed.

The monastery was originally founded at Embsay in 1120.

It then passes over the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway through a roundabout junction with the B6260 before rising up Beamsley hill, which was two lanes eastbound ( uphill ) and a single lane westbound during the incline-which was improved at various points during the 1980s.

The now-closed and lifted Midland line continued west of Ilkley via Addingham, Bolton Abbey and Embsay to Skipton.

The section from Embsay to Bolton Abbey has been reopened by enthusiasts who operates steam locomotives as the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.

In 1120 Robert's heir Cecilia de Romille, Lady of Skipton, founded an Augustine priory at Embsay near Skipton and endowed it with the manor / estate of Kildwick.
