We assume for this illustration that the size of the land plots is so great that the distance between dwellings is greater than the voice can carry and that most of the communication is between nearest neighbors only, as shown in Figure 2.

In Figure 2, the points in the network are designated by a letter accompanied by a number.

In any social system in which communications have an importance comparable with that of production and other human factors, a point like f in Figure 2 would ( other things being equal ) be the dwelling place for the community leader, while e and h would house the next most important citizens.

It seems clear, from the counter-balanced shape of the series of arrows in Figure 5 that there was about an equal number of early and late Onsets and Completions for the 34 girls.

A Full Figure of 8 returns the dancer to original position ; a Half Figure of 8 leaves the dancer on the opposite side of the set from original position.

Figure 3 shows the same EV curve ( green ) with the actual cost data from Figure 1 ( in red ).

This is a much better conclusion than might be derived from Figure 1.

Fractals are typically self-similar patterns, where self-similar means they are " the same from near as from far " Fractals may be exactly the same at every scale, or as illustrated in Figure 1, they may be nearly the same at different scales.

Storm also anchored NBC Sports coverage of Wimbledon, French Open, Notre Dame football, World Figure Skating Championships, NBC SportsDesk, Men's and Women's U. S. Open ( golf ) and various college bowl games.

The facility has also hosted the 2001 U. S. Figure Skating Championships, the 1996 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, the 1996 and 2000 US Gymnastics Trials, the 1998 and 2004 NCAA Men's Frozen Four, the 1996 NHL All-Star Game, the 2008 and 2010 NBA Finals, and the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

Since its opening day, it has hosted seven NBA Finals series with the Lakers, three WNBA Finals, the 2000 Democratic National Convention, the 2002 U. S. Figure Skating Championships, the 52nd NHL All-Star game, two NBA All-Star Games ( in 2004 and 2011 ), the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, since 2002, the WTA Tour Championships, from 2002 – 2005, UFC 60 in 2006, UFC 104 in 2009, the inaugural Latin Grammy Awards in 2000, the annual Grammy Awards, since 2000, with the exception of 2003, the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships, the Summer X Games indoor competitions, since 2003, as well as numerous concerts and HBO Championship Boxing matches.

In 1997, it was the venue of the United States Figure Skating Association national championships, and in 2004 hosted the U. S. Gymnastics championships.

During Bellows ' years the series also developed a series of investigative reports about Hollywood's drug use and hiring practices ; but during the 1996 – 97 season ET began to include more sensational fare, featuring paid exclusive interviews with controversial and infamous newsmakers of the day, including disgraced Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding, who became notorious for her role in the conspiracy to physically attack rival Nancy Kerrigan at a 1994 U. S. Figure Skating Championships practice session ; Amy Fisher, who appeared with Joey and Mary Jo Buttafuoco, reunited after Fisher's infamous assault on Mrs. Buttafuoco ; convicted child molester Mary Kay Letourneau, who married Vili Fualaau ; and attorney Howard K. Stern, from the Anna Nicole Smith paternity controversy.

It has also played host for other sporting events, such as the U. S. Figure Skating Championships, the NCAA Basketball tournament ( known as March Madness ), the Pac-10 women's basketball championship, and the Dew Action Sports Tour.

For the U. S. Figure Skating Association, it refers to a skill level, while the International Skating Union uses it to designate age.

* On January 6, 1994, as figure skater Nancy Kerrigan practiced during the 1994 U. S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, a man ran onto the rink and hit her knee with a baton, then fled.

Brandon Mroz of the United States is credited with landing the first quadruple Lutz jump in a sanctioned competition at the 2011 Colorado Springs Invitational, a club competition sanctioned by U. S. Figure Skating ; Mroz's jump was subsequently ratified by the International Skating Union after video review.

In accordance with its focus on the ZigBee standard, Chipcon in early 2005 bought U. S. company Figure 8 Wireless, which develops Zigbee system software.
