Mean Machines describes the game as having " struck gold " in a way that no other – not even its sequels – has matched and GameSpot named the game as one of the greatest games of all time for its innovation, gameplay and visual style.

GameSpot describes the music as ranging from " quiet, almost nonexistent ambient tunes to dramatic, orchestrated tracks ".

IGN stated that " Neversoft has finally made a good game besides all their Tony Hawk " GameSpot described it as " initially a 19th-century Grand Theft Auto " while GameSpy addressed it as having " just about everything you could want from a game set in the Wild West ".

It has been ranked among the best games of all time by several organizations including Edge, IGN, The Age and GameSpot, while Guinness World Records has named it as the top console game ever.

GameSpot regarded the game as " perhaps the most highly anticipated fighter ever " and called it the best fighting game ever to be released for a handheld console.

In 2005, GameSpot stated " Planescape: Torment has quite possibly the best implementation of role-playing an evil character ever to appear in a computer or video game to date ".

The game received the perfect 10 / 10 scores from GameSpot and IGN, and being the second game ever to get a perfect 40 / 40 by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu ( the first being The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ).

In 2005, GameSpot ranked Soulcalibur as the sixth best launch title yet, calling it " not only one of the greatest launch games or one of the greatest fighters, but one of the greatest games ever.

Command & Conquer was well received and was widely praised by critics: " Command & Conquer is one of the finest, most brilliantly-designed computer games I have ever seen " said GameSpot reviewer Chris Hudak.

The title has been inducted into a number of features listing the greatest games ever made, including ones by GameSpy, Edge, IGN, GameSpot and PC Gamer.

GameSpot reviewer Frank Provo gave the game an 8. 2 out of ten, stating " Sonic Advance 2 is easily the toughest 2D Sonic game ever made ", where as GameSpy reviewer Christian Nutt called Sonic Advance 2 " a solid adventure with some niggling flaws ", and gave the game a 3 out of 5.

Also referring to the scene as a shocking moment, GameSpot suggested that the FMV sequence of Sephiroth appearing in front of the Nibelheim fire " might be one of the most recognizable cutscenes ever to grace video games.

Game Informer and GameSpot commented on how well the game depicted the fictional city of Springfield from the television series, and called it the most accurate representation of Springfield ever put into a game.

GameSpot gave it an 8. 8, calling it " a really great game, perhaps the best James Bond game ever made ".

GameSpot said that " TimeSplitters 2 may very well be the best split-screen multiplayer-focused first-person shooter ever created.

The PS2 version earned a rare perfect 10 score from GameSpot, one of only seven games to ever receive said score, " Probably because of the freedom given in this game.

" GameSpot gave the game a score of 1. 3 out of 10, making it the fourth lowest rated game by GameSpot, declaring that " This is easily the worst game I've ever played ... it serves no purpose other than to firmly establish the bottom of the barrel ".

GameSpot commented that Dawn of Sorrow succeeded in continuing 2D games as a definite genre, and that it " keeps that flame burning as bright as ever ".

" The game's large arsenal was highly praised, as GameSpot said that the Cerebral Bore is " possibly the grossest weapon ever conceived ".

GameSpot also considered the atmosphere as rich as that of Blood Omen, yet less dramatically overstated, and considered the graphics " among the best that have ever been on the PlayStation.

GameSpot gave it a 9. 0 out of 10, stating that " SSX 3 delivers a rush like few racing games or action sports games have ever achieved.

Games Radar named M. U. G. E. N as one of the " 12 weirdest fighting games ever ", as did GameSpot.

GameSpot called it " one of the best traditional video game shooting experiences ever made ", and IGN's review called Orta a potent mix between " a solid storyline, stunning graphics, and great sound ", declaring it " the best rail shooter of all time ".

In addition to Electronic Gaming Monthly < nowiki >'</ nowiki > s award of " Soundtrack of the Year ", GameSpot commented that the musical score conveyed, and often intensified, the mood of any given situation, while it was described as " one of the finest game soundtracks ever " by a reviewer from Eurogamer.

When NFL Blitz was released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, it was referred to as " the best football game ever made " by GameSpot. com

Their reception of this element varied: Tim Soete of GameSpot felt that it was " morally questionable ", while the Game Revolution reviewer noted that it was " done in a tongue-in-cheek manner ," and he was " not personally offended ".

Quake mobile was reviewed by GameSpot on the Samsung Nexus and they cite its US release as October 2005, they also gave it a Best Mobile Game " in their E3 2005 Editor's Choice Awards.

On August 3, 2007, GameSpot reported that Variety confirmed Return to Castle Wolfenstein and that the writer / producer team that was involved with Silent Hill will be involved with the Wolfenstein project.

Although reviewers including IGN and GameSpot felt that the single player gameplay was lacking compared to its predecessor, the simultaneous four-person multiplexer modes – a first for the Nintendo 64 – were praised.

It was described by GameSpot as more of a remake of Super Mario Kart than a sequel to Mario Kart 64 and featured a return to the graphical style of the original.

GameSpot reviewer Brad Shoemaker gave the game an 8. 5, but cited " muffled sound effects " in Final Fantasy IV, and was displeased with frequent loading in Chrono Trigger.

Although reviewers claimed that the novel graphical style was initially confusing, most welcomed the style eventually, with GameSpot claiming that it was " extremely well done ".

GameSpot said in their review that the music was in some cases better than the original, such as the boardwalk levels of Lake Orangatanga.

GameSpot claimed " it lacks enough ' wow factor ' to exert the revolutionary influence that Donkey Kong Country had " and IGN reports that while it is " not the leap and bound that Donkey Kong Country was for Super NES, is still an excellent platformer all the same ".

Planescape: Torment was given several Editor's Choice awards, was named RPG of the Year for 1999 by both GameSpot and Computer Gaming World, and won the Vault Network's Game of the Year for 1999.

GameSpot reviewer Jeff Gerstmann felt that the soundtrack was subjective to personal preference, stating " you'll either want to crank the volume up or turn the music all the way down.

" In a review for the PC version's altered soundtrack, fellow GameSpot reviewer Andrew Park felt that the new music was fitting for the game.

This was followed in 2006 by GameSpot ’ s report on March 20 that Transmeta was working on an “ unnamed ” Microsoft project.

The zoomable sniper rifle was praised as one of the game's most impressive and entertaining features, Edge describing it as a " novel twist " and Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot noting its ability to alleviate the game's distance fog.

The reception at the time of original Dreamcast version was very positive, with reviews from GameSpot and GameSpy being above 90 %.

Armada was noted as one of the few good Star Trek games to be made, garnering a 7. 9 out of 10 from GameSpot.

GameSpot also noted the slight twists in resource and unit mechanics, but concluded that the game was more or less a standard RTS.
