In addition, the game's artificial intelligence was not regarded as particularly challenging, with GameSpot noting that " enemies follow the same sorts of predictable patterns that may remember from previous Doom games " while GameSpy stated the way enemies would spawn to attack the player was " gimmicky "; the reviewer noted that players would realize that picking up a lone armor vest would cause a variety of zombies to emerge from hidden compartments in the dark.

" There was particular praise given to the innovative internal clock feature, with Frank Povo of GameSpot, noting " The first major addition to Pokémon GS is the presence of a time element ...

IGN called this new system " a beneficial addition ", and GameSpot stated it " makes targeting a cinch ".

GameSpot has criticized the addition of the Kyo clones in The King of Fighters ' 99, commenting they do not add new things to the game since they share most of the moves that the original Kyo has.

GameSpot reviewer Greg Kasavin commented that the fights have been highly improved with the addition of new fighting styles which " is clearly inspired by kung fu movies ".

Although the addition of Goro and Shao Kahn was praised, GameSpot noted that the other ports were better, while also commenting on Goro's appearance which looks " anemic ".

IGN's reviewer noted improvements made to the map editor and praised the amount of new content, while GameSpot focused on the addition of the Conflux alignment and subtle tweaks to the gameplay.

Cameron Davis of GameSpot applauded the game's camera support and attention to detail in coloration and style, while reviewers for the Courier Mail believed that the camera added gameplay depth and allowed players to show off trophies.

It was confirmed in a GameSpot article that the original versions of both Biohazard 5 and the western Resident Evil 5 would not feature motion controller support.

Although reviewers including IGN and GameSpot felt that the single player gameplay was lacking compared to its predecessor, the simultaneous four-person multiplexer modes – a first for the Nintendo 64 – were praised.

GameSpot noted the " exciting and somewhat strategic " battle system, which requires the player exploit the enemies ' weak points.

GameSpot felt that the opening level of the game " falls flat ," but that it gets much better once the player reaches Athkatla.

The site Allgame described Decay as an " added bonus " for the PlayStation 2 version of Half-Life, but noted that as the game was designed for two players, it significantly suffered when a single player attempts to play it by switching between two characters, a point that both GameSpy and GameSpot agreed on.

GameSpot awarded the Close Quarters Battle version of game a rating of 8. 3 / 10, commenting that " SWAT 3's most impressive feature has to be the amazing artificial intelligence employed by friend and foe alike " and praising the graphics and level design, but criticising the lack of multiplayer in the initial release, the tendency for some dialogue to repeat, the need to " radio in " every suspect or hostage secured, and the need to restart missions from scratch should the player be killed.

GameSpot noted that it was difficult to use the stylus immediately after the game prompted the player to draw the Magic Seal, thus forcing the player to use their fingernail on the touch screen.

GameSpot called the game ’ s visuals " impressive ," and that the player " can easily think that or she is playing a real-time cartoon ".

While Greg Kasavin of GameSpot felt that though the visuals were on par with previous games, End of Ages was missing several elements which made Myst IV more immersive ; only important, story-driving items could be interacted with, for example, and the player makes no sounds or footsteps in the game.

Publications such as GameSpot and IGN praised the voice acting and the switch to character models ; Jaun Castro of IGN stated that though the player could not interact directly with the characters, the rendered characters wound up " feeling more genuine and real " than in previous games, speaking with genuine conviction and animation.

Bethany Massimilla of GameSpot wrote that the lack of " dozens of characters of all types " allows the game to remain simple, letting the player become very familiar with the main characters.

GameSpot felt FreeSpaces story was " both deeper and darker " than either the Wing Commander and X-Wing series, establishing invincible foes who never lost their stature despite the player learning plausible ways of defeating them.

GameSpot praised the single player mode, but considered the puzzles too short, saying " Overall, the single-player mode is right about average.

GameSpot complained the combat system too direct, only requiring the player to use the square button to defeat enemies and that the combo system was unnecessary for progression.

The game is single player only and has been compared to Ace Combat by GameSpy and GameSpot.

Reviewer Ryan Davis from GameSpot similarly wrote that the game was " way too easy for the average platformer player.

GameSpot stated that Luigi's Mansion " features some refreshing ideas " and " flashes of brilliance.

The zoomable sniper rifle was praised as one of the game's most impressive and entertaining features, Edge describing it as a " novel twist " and Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot noting its ability to alleviate the game's distance fog.

GameSpot said that while the game is " decent enough to make it worth the $ 5 price the Wii's Virtual Console ", it features " questionable design decision " and can get confusing if players don't have the help of walkthroughs.

The title has been inducted into a number of features listing the greatest games ever made, including ones by GameSpy, Edge, IGN, GameSpot and PC Gamer.

Greg Kasavin of GameSpot praised the unity of " great-looking camera work with simple controls " and compared its " thought-provoking " storyline to Metal Gear Solid, while a GamePro reviewer criticized those features, calling the controls limited, the cel-shading dull, and the story incoherent.

The IGN, GameSpot, and GameSpy reviews noted the GameCube version features superior graphics, substantially faster loading times, and more responsive controls than the PlayStation 2 version, resulting in lower scores for the latter.

GameSpot gave the game a 6 out of 10, saying: " This particular game at least features a large, diverse cast of playable monsters ( though most of them are initially locked away ).
