As in the Gospel of Luke, there are numerous references to the Holy Spirit throughout Acts.

Acts features the " baptism in the Holy Spirit " on Pentecost and the subsequent spirit-inspired speaking in tongues.

The term Holy Orders is used by many Christian churches to refer to ordination or to those individuals ordained for a special role or ministry.

While the general concept of a " Spirit " that permeates the cosmos is a general feature of most religions ( e. g. Brahman in Hinduism and Tao in Taoism and Great Spirit among Indigenous peoples of the Americas ), the term Holy Spirit specifically refers to the beliefs held in the Abrahamic religions.

The term Ruach HaKodesh ( Holy Spirit ) is found frequently in Talmudic and Midrashic literature.

In Arabic language the word " Holy Spirit " does not translate as سكينة Sakinah used in a feminine term.

The term " Jewish-Christian " had been used in this sense as early as 1785 in Richard Watson's essay " The Teaching and Witness of the Holy Spirit ", and " Jewish Christian " ( as an adjective ) as early as 1644 in William Rathband's A Briefe Narration of Some Church Courses.

The first musical use of the term psychedelic is thought to have been by the New York-based folk group The Holy Modal Rounders on their version of Lead Belly's " Hesitation Blues " in 1964.

The term foursquare refers to the four fundamental beliefs of Pentecostalism: Jesus saves according to John 3: 16, baptizes with the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2: 4, heals bodily according to James 5: 15, and is coming again to receive those who are saved according to 1 Thessalonians 4: 16 – 17.

Today the term " priest " is used in Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, and some branches of Lutheranism to refer to those who have been ordained to a ministerial position through receiving the sacrament of Holy Orders, although " presbyter " is also used.

They adopted the term (" the Third Empire " – usually rendered in English in the partial-translation " the Third Reich "), first used in a 1923 novel by Arthur Moeller van den Bruck, that counted the mediaeval Holy Roman Empire as the first and the 1871-1918 monarchy as the second, which was then to be followed by a " reinvigorated " third one.

All of these kings were also crowned Holy Roman Emperor ( 1027 – 1125 ): the term ' Salic dynasty ' also applies to the Holy Roman Empire as a separate term.
