Hari then meets reporter Chetter Hummin, who convinces him that Cleon's first minister Eto Demerzel is attempting to capture him, and that it is therefore imperative for Hari to escape and to try to make psychohistory practical.

Thus, Hari goes on his " Flight " and is introduced to Dors Venabili by Hummin.

Hari and Dors are almost killed when they try to find what they suspect is a robot in the Mycogenian " temple " until Hummin arrives in the nick of time to save them.

The finale reveals that " Hummin " is actually Cleon's first minister Eto Demerzel, who we later learn is in fact the robot R. Daneel Olivaw.

When Hari Seldon first comes to Trantor, Olivaw, under the guise of reporter Chetter Hummin ( a play on the words " cheater " and " human "), convinces Hari that the Galactic Empire is dying and that psychohistory must be developed into a practical science in order to save it.

As Hummin, he convinces Seldon that Cleon's first minister Eto Demerzel is pursuing him and that it is imperative for Hari to escape and to try making psychohistory practical.

At the end of Seldon's " Flight " it is revealed that Hummin and Demerzel are actually the same person, and are both false identities of Olivaw.

Over the course of the book, Seldon and Dors Venabili, a female companion, are taken from location to location by an aide, Chetter Hummin, who introduces them to various walks of life in his attempts to keep Seldon hidden from the Emperor.

Dors has been assigned the task of protecting Hari Seldon by Chetter Hummin ( one of several aliases used by R. Daneel Olivaw ) who takes an initial interest in Hari Seldon's psychohistory research.

As Jimmie Baskette, he appeared on Broadway with Louis Armstrong in the all-black musical revue Hot Chocolates in 1929, and was announced for Hummin ' Sam in 1933, although it failed to open.
