Joachim ( 1505 – 1571 ), the future elector of Brandenburg, was the eldest son and heir of their current claimant of Luxembourg, Joachim I, Elector of Brandenburg ( 1484 – 1535 ), the eldest son and heir of the late Margaret of Thuringia ( 1449 – 1501 ), Dowager Electress of Brandenburg, herself the eldest daughter and heiress of Anna, Duchess of Luxembourg and William of Saxony, Landgrave of Thuringia.

Pope Pius V ( 1566 – 1572 ) sent him as papal nuncio to Venice in 1566 to further the papal alliance with Spain and Venice against the Turks, which ultimately resulted in the victory of Lepanto in 1571.

The Duke of Norfolk was arrested on 7 September 1571 and sent to the Tower.

0n 18 November 1571, the new Regent, John Erskine, Earl of Mar, sent Morton, with Robert Pitcairn, Commendator of Dunfermline and James MacGill of Nether Rankeillour to treat with Elizabeth's representative Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, Governor of Berwick upon Tweed.

The first important employment which Lord Buckhurst had was in 1571, when he was sent on a special mission to king Charles IX of France to congratulate him on his marriage with Elizabeth of Austria, the daughter of the Emperor Maximilian, and also to negotiate the matter of the proposed alliance of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Anjou, brother of the French king.

In the list of more important bulls issued by him the famous bull " In Coena Domini " ( 1568 ) takes a leading place ; but amongst others throwing light on Pope Pius V's character and policy there may be mentioned his prohibition of quaestuary ( February 1567 and January 1570 ); the condemnation of Michael Baius, the heretical Professor of Leuven ( 1567 ); the reform of the breviary ( July 1568 ); the denunciation of the " dirum nefas " ( August 1568 ); the banishment of the Jews from the ecclesiastical dominions except Rome and Ancona ( 1569 ); the injunction of the use of the reformed missal ( July 1570 ); the confirmation of the privileges of the Society of Crusaders for the protection of the Inquisition ( October 1570 ); the dogmatic certainty of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary ( November 1570 ); the suppression of the Fratres Humiliati for profligacy ( February 1571 ); the approbation of the new office of the Blessed Virgin ( March 1571 ); the enforcement of the daily recitation of the Canonical Hours ( September 1571 ); and the purchase of assistance against the Turks by offers of plenary pardon ( March 1572 ).

Maximilian's power was very limited ; it was inability rather than unwillingness that prevented him from yielding to the entreaties of Pope Pius V to join in an attack on the Turks both before and after the victory of Lepanto in 1571 ; and he remained inert while the authority of the empire in north-eastern Europe was threatened.

This made him, especially after 1571, hated by all those who adhered to Lutheranism in opposition to Melanchthon.

On 25 February 1571, Queen Elizabeth elevated him as Baron Burghley.

The 1541-II / 1581 power supply makes mention of a 1571-II, hinting that Commodore may have intended to release a version of the 1571 with an external power supply.

A C128 in CP / M mode equipped with a 1571 was capable of reading and writing floppy disks formatted for many CP / M computers ; specifically, the following formats:

Reading Atari 8-bit 130kB or 180kB disks was possible as well with special software, but the standard Atari 8-bit 90kB format, which used FM rather than MFM encoding, could not be handled by the 1571 hardware without modifying the drive circuitry as the control line that determines if FM or MFM encoding is used by the disc controller chip was permanently wired to ground ( MFM mode ) rather than being under software control.

As with the 1541, Commodore initially could not meet demand for the 1571, and that lack of availability and the drive's relatively high price ( about US $ 300 ) presented an opportunity for cloners.

Commodore announced a dual-drive version of the 1571, to be called the 1572, but quickly cancelled it, reportedly due to technical difficulties with the 1572 DOS.
