Nez Perce is a misnomer given by the interpreter of the Lewis and Clark Expedition at the time they first encountered the Nez Perce in 1805.

Following an arduous trek through the Bitterroot Mountains, suffering through a mid-September snowstorm and near starvation, the Corps of Discovery expedition camped with the Nez Perce tribe on the Weippe Prairie outside of present-day Weippe in 1805.

With the assistance of the Nez Perce, the expedition recuperated and constructed burned-out canoes at Canoe Camp in October 1805 and then paddled down the Clearwater, Snake, and Columbia rivers, meeting the Pacific Ocean a month later at present-day Astoria, Oregon.

Near present-day Weippe, the Lewis and Clark expedition first met with the Nez Percé in September 1805 on the Weippe Prairie.

The Nez Perce trail existed in the area before history was recorded, and the first written record of caucasians passing through the area were Lewis and Clark in 1805.

The trail was used by Nez Perce Indians in the 18th century, and by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, guided by Old Toby of the Shoshone, on their westward snowbound journey in September 1805.

Three were completed when the War of 1812 broke out ; these were the Santee Canal ( opened 1800 ) in South Carolina, the Middlesex Canal ( opened 1802 ) in Massachusetts and the Dismal Swamp Canal ( opened 1805 ) in Virginia.

However, a Franco-Spanish fleet was defeated at Trafalgar ( 21 October 1805 ) and all plans to invade Britain were then made impossible.

According to the enthnographer James Mooney, the population of the tribe was about 200 families in 1702 ; 1000 people in 1780 ; 300 in 1805 ; 80 in 1829, when they were living with the Otoe ; and 13 in 1910 ; afterward, their population numbers are combined with those of the Otoe.

His 24 Caprices were probably composed in the period between 1805 to 1809, while he was in the service of the Baciocchi court.

The dates for some of these celebrations have undergone some changes: in 1805, 1855, and 1905 ( and in England in 1955 ) anniversaries were calculated with Boniface's death dated in 755, the " Mainz tradition "; Michael Tangl's dating of the martyrdom in 754 was not accepted until after 1955.

After Napoleon's decisive victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, however, Napoleon became much more aggressive, and most American attempts to negotiate with him were unsuccessful.

On Thursday, December 12, 1805, in the ninth Congress, Senator Stephen Row Bradley of Vermont gave notice that he would, bring in a bill to prohibit the importation of certain persons therein described " into any port or place within the jurisdiction of the United States, from and after the first day of January ", which will be " in the year of our Lord 1808 ", The " certain persons " were described as being slaves on Monday, December 16, 1805.

In 1805, two captured crewmembers of the shipwrecked schooner Betsey were kept alive until their escape from an undetermined island on a diet of sago.

The first western explorers to visit the river were Lewis and Clark on or about October 17, 1805.

In 1805, the Corps of Discovery, led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and aided by the Shoshone Native American tribe, crossed the Bitterroot Range several times.

The region was only intermittently inhabited by Native Americans until relatively recent times, and no single tribe had exclusive use of the Jefferson River when the Lewis and Clark Expedition first ascended the river in 1805.

In 1805, Napoleon planned to invade Britain, but a renewed British alliance with Russia and Austria ( Third Coalition ), forced him to turn his attention towards the continent, while at the same time failure to lure the superior British fleet away from the English Channel, ending in a decisive French defeat at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October put an end to hopes of an invasion of Britain.

The increased tribute demand was refused, a United States of America naval force blockaded Tripoli, and the First Barbary War continued on until 3 June 1805 resulting in the repatriation of 300 US sailors and the first time the US flag had been raised in victory on foreign soil.

Despite this naval defeat, it was on the ground that this war would be won, Napoleon inflicted the Austrian and Russian Empires one of their greatest defeats at Austerlitz ( also known as the " Battle of the Three Emperors " on 2 December 1805 ), destroying the Third Coalition.

* The French Revolutionary Calendar, in force in France from 1793 to 1805 and briefly under the Paris Commune in 1871, began the calendar year on the day of the Southward equinox-September 22, 23 or 24.

This led to its influence on Napoleon and Girodet's 1805 painting Ossian receiving the Ghosts of the French Heroes ( see above ).

Part of this research benefited from the knowledge already expounded on in a book ( printed in German in 1794, in Czech in 1801 ), written by František Ondřej Poupě ( Ger: Franz Andreas Paupie ) ( 1753 – 1805 ) from Brno.

In 1804, he had moved from the University of Kiel to the University of Landshut, but, on being commanded by King Maximilian Joseph to draft a penal code for Bavaria ( Strafgesetzbuch für das Königreich Bayern ), in 1805 he moved to Munich where he was given a high appointment in the Ministry of Justice and was ennobled in 1808.

Some Native Americans captured Europeans and used them as both labourers and bargaining chips ; see for example John R. Jewitt, an Englishman who wrote a memoir about his years as a captive of the Nootka people on the Pacific Northwest Coast from 1802 – 1805.

Roget's Thesaurus is a widely used English language thesaurus, created by Dr. Peter Mark Roget ( 1779 – 1869 ) in 1805 and released to the public on 29 April 1852.

Conceiving that such a compilation might help to supply my own deficiencies, I had, in the year 1805, completed a classed catalogue of words on a small scale, but on the same principle, and nearly in the same form, as the Thesaurus now published.
